Newstory "softens" Little League mom attack

CJ writes "Just another example of the double standard in the media based upon gender here. This a sympathetic article the Boston Globe ran on a mother who attacked and kicked an 11 year old boy at a little league game. The paper is highly sympathetic to the defense attorney’s arguments here; in fact it is the basis of the entire article. If the gender were to be reversed here, a father would likely be portrayed as a monster that should be locked up until trial based on a "dangerous hearing." This woman was released on her own recognizance... trust me, this just doesn’t happen for men in MA."

African Men Against Female Circumcision?

Philalethes writes "According to a new report, 'Most male Sudanese college students report that they would prefer to marry a woman who has not been "circumcised," a finding that contradicts the traditional belief that so-called female circumcision increases a woman's chance for finding a husband.' Wait a minute: I thought men -- male lust, male preferences, male cruelty -- were behind this cruel practice? Okay, so maybe it's declining, and good riddance; but as usual, not a word about male circumcision, which is at least as prevalent in the same culture -- but not, apparently, worthy of any concern."

"Guy TV" in a women's popular culture?

CJ writes "A must read! If you haven't already heard, "Guy TV" is on its way. Unfortunately, it seems that it will be somewhat stereotypical in that it will cater to the base level of men. The article has some surprisingly interesting statements in it, such as: "a male-focused channel will help rectify an ''overemphasis'' of women's issues in popular culture" - ''Men are the new women, in terms of research. They're very trendy'' - Judith Kegan Gardiner, author of ''Masculinity Studies and Feminist Theory: New Directions,'' said that the channel offers an escape for men at a time when they appear to be under attack as more women are graduating from college and growing in economic power. ''Many men feel they don't have the earning power or job security they previously had,'' Please comment, and lets contact this network immediately."

Male sweat relaxes women

Progress on Attitudes

Neil Steyskal writes "Linda Chavez' latest column shows that some are waking up to mothers' role in fatherlessness. She talks about women's attitudes about whether a father is needed; but she doesn't mention that most divorces are initiated by women, nor that 40 percent of divorced mothers interfere with children seeing their fathers. Still, it's progress.

"The Lowest Moments in Advertising"

Kyle Knutson writes "The June 9, 2003 print edition of Adweek Magazine , features a cover story entitled, "The Lowest Moments in Advertising", which highlights the worst of the worst (supposedly) in advertising history. Surprisingly enough (ha!), the bitterly misandrous Progressive Insurance "voodoo doll - castration" ad didn't make the list. You can let the Adweek editors know how inexcusably remiss they are by sending your letters to letterseditor@adweek.com."

some debate among men's activists concerning whether we need special
governmental initiatives, offices, or programs to promote men's
health.

"Evidence" not required for sex discrimination law

CJ writes "In a unanimous decision the Supreme Court lowered the standard for discrimination suits to be presented before a jury. "Direct evidence" which requires proof based upon personal knowledge or observation, "which can be difficult to produce" has been replaced with "sufficient evidence" for a jury to conclude that discrimination was a motivating factor for any employment practice.

Another Female Gets Away With Murder...Sort Of

Luek writes "
This news story
is significant because one, it shows that a woman will probably get the lesser charge of manslaughter rather than murder when she deliberately kills a man in a manner like this.

And two, it suggests speculation that one of the factors that caused this man's violent brutal death was the social conditioning now in vogue that a man will never ever hit a woman no matter what she does. Did social conditioning in regards to violence against women suppress the natural human instinct to defend one's self against a violent physical attack?"
