I am very glad to announce that Day One of the 2004 Men's Rights Congress was a big success!! Activists from all over the country converged at a church near Capitol Hill to organize and depart for "Lobby Day on the Hill". I can't tell you the great sense of satisfaction and accomplishment that came just from going directly to the seat of legislation and making our case to our senators and Congressmen, or their staffers. Following that, participants made signs and protested in front of the Supreme Court, talking to passers-by, handing out leaflets, and posing for photos taken by tourists and passing media people. From there, we moved on to the Capitol lawn to join fellow protesters for photo ops and to make our presence known there as well.
It was a long but very satisfying day. We remained stolidly undaunted in the face of the heat and humidity. :) We all look forward to tomorrow for the second day of the Congress at the Carnegie Endowment for Peace building.
Oh yes - photos coming soon!

CJ writes " A woman bites off her boyfriend's tongue and perhaps swallows it because he squeezed her a bit too tight while kissing. The AP news story granted her "victim status" on her account alone, which as usual is an odd twist of logic aimed at justifying violent female behavior based upon her previous experience with men. Media’s constant justification of violent female behavior seems to be the norm today and it softens the impact of violent female behavior, and denigrates men in the process. This was another "odds and ends" new item."

Rand T. writes ""Dads, you see, are the last subculture in America whom it is permissible to bash and malign with impunity. They have no lobby whose sole task it is to protect their honor. You can depict dads as stumbling, bumbling doofs all you want and receive not a single shred of flak for it. "

Anonymous User writes "Granted, the IWF has been an advocate for traditional fatherhood and for marriage - they should be lauded for this. But look at their "Father's Day" page:

Read the first listed article, "Meet Today's Dad: A Model to Avoid." Grrr..."
Hmmm. I dunno about you, but I'm starting to get the feeling the IWF values the nearest man's uses more than his characteristics. For independant women, they sure do glorify the traditional man, but not the traditional woman? if there was ever going to be a universal slogan for this kind of thing, it would have to be "No reciprocity? no way!" Or perhaps "You can't have it both ways baybee!" as a wise man once said.

At this point I wouldn't have kids to save my own bloody life. Look at this will you. Apparently, in CA anyway, a mother can abandon a baby anyplace and as long as she calls for pick-up, it's OK. If a man did that, he'd be toast.

Marc writes "Aside from all the randomized surveys showing that men and women initiate DV at the same rates (like in Fiebert's bibliography here and Linda Kelly's law review journal in PDF format), sometimes it is also very useful to cite local and state police reports and other "archival" data in one's advocacy for male victims in civil rights lawsuits, lobbying or other advocacy. Below are some California stats from an online State of California source that can be very useful in this regard. Marc

Economist R. Mark Rogers of Economic Consulting wrote a concise and insightful rebuttal of the NH Child Support Guidelines in PDF format. Not only are the guidelines full of inconsistencies and unfair burdens (mostly to the disadvantage of the non-custodial parent), but it turns out that the current NH guidelines do not even use the sliding percentage of income scale that the NH DHHS recommended, but instead are based on a fixed percentage of income with no cap. At only 11 pages, this document is a quick read and I hope will it inspire others to investigate child support guidelines in other states and form rebuttal strategies.

NextEntity writes "News on the British front shows that more women are wealthy than men now. Now new and improved with glib quotes, statistics and an ending along the lines of:
"Once upon a time little girls on both sides of the Atlantic may have dreamed about marrying a millionaire. These days they're dreaming about running their own companies. Will little boys dream about marrying them?"
How long before the tired old hat of rich men being the oppressors and evil bastards gets retired in favor of the opposite?

from the horse's....ah....mouth is Judge D. Michael "Mickey" Foellger who gained 15 minutes of fame by ordering a man to be sterilized or go to jail for not being able to pay child support.
Notice how he always refers to men's sexual indescretion in cases he cites but never the women's. Also, he never acknowledges that women unlike men can abort their parental responsiblities before the child is born.
If anyone knows how to contact him let us know."
Well, you could just look at the fifth result over here and reach for the phone....

I need to include some parliamentary acts passed within the last centuary to support this argument. If anyone has any ideas that I may find useful please post on this site. Any contribution whatsoever would be appreciated, and I'll let you know how I get on. Thanks."

"It is important, likewise, that the habits of thinking in a free Country should inspire caution in those entrusted with its administration, to confine themselves within their respective Constitutional spheres; avoiding in the exercise of the Powers of one department to encroach upon another. The spirit of encroachment tends to consolidate the powers of all the departments in one, and thus to create whatever the form of government, a real despotism." - Hamilton Abert Long
