Rape Reported to Cover Public Drunkenness

Luek writes "Here is an article about a woman who claimed to have been brutally raped in a restroom to cover up underage public drunkenness and being in possession of alcohol. But later admitted she had lied. Big surprise huh? The upside: she will be charged with making a false crime report. The downside: she will probably not get any jail time, more likely mild probation. And all will probably have a big laugh over it.

More evidence that there is a urgent need to pass federal legislation to prosecute false rape allegations and add real prison time."

NY Times Prints NCFM letter, NOW letter

Marc A. writes "Peter Allemano of the NY chapter of NCFM just send out the following message that I'd like to convey:

"On page 10 of yesterday's (i.e., 3/6/05) Sunday Business section, THE NEW YORK TIMES published two letters in response to its 2/27/05 article about Warren Farrell. One is a standard-issue, ideological feminist screech about anti-female discrimination and harassment, submitted by Kathy Rodgers, President of Legal Momentum (formerly NOW Legal Defense and Education Fund), and the other is a highly condensed version of the letter I submitted. Although a "search" for both our names on the TIMES's Web site turns up the fact that our letters were published, the actual text of the letters is not available on line. So here's what the TIMES published of mine:"

Playground insults against females banned, boys ok

Anonymous User writes "From This is London, Teachers are warned today that words such as "slag" and "slut" lead to boys feeling superior to girls and make domestic violence seem more acceptable. Boys should be challenged if they are heard directing such terms at girls. It is considered equally unacceptable for girls to aim such insults at one another. Teachers' leaders said such language is common in secondary schools and even among older children at primaries. Not surprisingly, there's no mention if what happens if a girl insults a guy for being a pervert, a horndog or a lech. I seriously doubt such behavior will be banned as well by the new rules."

RADAR Alert: Lifetime TV Reaches out to Men by Ignoring DV Against Men

Lifetime TV is planning to broadcast a one-hour “documentary” about domestic violence on April 4 titled “Terror at Home: Domestic Violence in America.” The Press Release which announces the film is attached at the end of this Alert.

Lifetime TV claims that it wants to stop domestic violence by involving men in its efforts, and is partnering with groups like ESPN. But then Lifetime TV turns around and produces a film about DV that completely ignores DV against men.

Somebody needs to ask Lifetime, “How can you say you are reaching out to men, and then turn around and pretend that men are never the victims of DV?”

An "Affair" with an 11 year Old?

Tumescent writes "Everyone involved in this unseemly story is at fault, but once again the media portrays this in the headlines as an “affair”. An adult cannot have a sexual "affair" with an 11 year old boy or girl. The words "slept with" and "having sex" when applied to a child should not be used. Yes, they are just words, but "sexual assault" or "child rape" seems more appropriate. Also, the article seems to spend more time questioning the activities of the victim's father than on the alleged child rapist."

Federal Class Action Lawsuit for Equal Parenting

People for Equal Parenting, Inc. writes "The Supreme Court has ruled that parenting is a fundamental right. In a class action lawsuit against the Texas Attorney General, People for Equal Parenting, Inc. (PEP) is challenging current Texas laws which establish non-custodial parenthood and unequal possession of children as unconstitutional. We have a winnable case. PEP seeks donations to a legal fund to change custody laws so that all fit, divorced parents have the presumptive right to equal physical and legal custody of their children."

Man Learns Penalty for Wanting to Stay In for the Evening

SLOPDOG writes "Anti-Social Man Almost Loses Nose

A Texas man nearly lost his snout after telling his wife he didn't want to go out.

Police said Maria Serrano, of San Antonio, got in a fight with her husband, Zeferino Barrera, after he told her he'd rather not hit the town last weekend.

"The woman in this situation assaulted the man, nearly cutting off his nose and sending him to the hospital," police spokeswoman Sandy Gutierrez told WOAI-TV.

Barrera said Serrano hit him in the head with a frying pan, but police couldn't find any kind of cutting weapon.

"She claims she never had anything in her hands, that it was simply her fist she used to hit him on the nose," Gutierrez said.

A plastic surgeon doubted that story.

"That would be a huge force to knock it off like that," said plastic surgeon Dr. Thomas Jeneby, who said Barrera's nose could be saved with multiple operations.

Serrano was charged with aggravated assault.

Female Teacher Accused of Sex Abuse

bandersnatch writes "From WOWK TV:

"A Braxton County middle school teacher is in police custody after allegedly confessing to sexual misconduct with five of her students. Toni Lynn Woods, 37, of Strange Creek was arrested Wednesday on eight counts of sexual assault."

Finally, the media is using the headline of sex abuse instead of just "having sex or sexual relations" to describe this."

Bryant Case Settled Out of Court

Here is the story, from the BBC. I quote:

In it, the woman claimed unspecified damages for mental injuries, public scorn and humiliation she had suffered after the encounter.

At the time of the collapse of the criminal case, Mr Bryant issued a statement apologising to the woman for any distress he had caused.

According to the statement, the woman had agreed not to use the apology against him in the civil claim.

No mention of the scorn and humiliation she may have caused Bryant with her unsupportable allegations. The message is clear: fame and money can be gotten for a woman by having sex with a famous/wealthy man, then suing him for it. Makes me glad I am neither!

Indian Govt To Prepare Gender Oriented Budget

Mangesh writes "The highlights of the latest budget presented to Parliament are 1. Women pay Rs. 2,500 less tax on their income, 2. All govt departments required to prepare `gender budgets' which means they should allocate part of their planned fund outlay specifically for the benefit of women, 3. In some Indian states, women pay less stamp duty on property purchase than what men pay (in Delhi, it's 6% & 8%). The Finance Minister recommends the same model to other states as well.

The Times of India editorial is quite supportive of these `affirmative action' measures."
