Tom writes "Great news! A huge billboard on I-95 calling for VAWA to serve male victims is up and running. Two more have been placed at the amtrak station in Wilmington, Delaware. It is the work of a group called Safe Homes for Children and Families Coalition (SHCFC) and can be found at http://www.vawa4all.org. Pictures of the billboards can be seen here This group is interested in helping others get DV billboards running around the country. If you are interested contact them. If you can help out give them a hand and donate a buck or two through their paypal donate button. These guys are on the front lines doing great work!"

Ed. note: Normally I don't post links submitted just as is, but this one is a whopping exception. Go ahead and read it-- as bad as the whole thing is, just wait 'til you get to the last paragraph.

Tirryb writes "And another on News.com.au, which reports here that Australian men accused of DV can now legally be removed from their home even if they have nowhere to go to - and given vouchers to be used at cheap hotel room or caravan park accommodation... Gee, the future's looking scary...."

Tirryb writes "In Australia News.com.au reports here that a school girl killed her new born baby, but has been spared jail. Apparently she gave birth in her room, cut the chord, punched the baby several times in the head to kill it, then wrapped it in a blanket and placed it beside her bed - all to avoid losing face with friends and family. The judge said "I am satisfied that the interest of the community and particularly the interest of you are best served by you becoming a useful member of society, certainly not by going to jail,"
Just what would the schoolboy father have received if he'd done the deed..?"

Linucs writes "From here, "More than 400 young [Iranian] men and women have volunteered to carry out suicide bombing attacks against Americans in Iraq and targets in Israel, a militant group said Wednesday.[...]"Some 440 volunteers, most of them women, signed up today," said group spokesman Mohammad Ali Samadi."
So much for gender empowerment (more "victims" for the U.N. to complain about?)"

bandersnatch writes "From Ask Men -- 'Ask a buddy at work. Ask your neighbor. Even a relative will probably have heard of one. And the stories are always the same: she took his house, his car, and his kids. She made more money than him and he still had to pay alimony. She accused him of physical abuse and the courts didn't even ask for evidence."

There's so much to say about this, I don't know where to start! OK, gotta try: It minimizes the fact that the wounded man in the story was knifed (ie, attempted murder) by his girlfriend, and later that he tried to kill himself over her. It takes an opportunity to discuss several men's health issues (eg: DV, psychological problems with boundaries and women, suicide, etc.) and throws it aside - right there in the Health section!
I am sure there's more to say about it but I'll let MANN readers run with the ball.

cnewbyuk writes "The whole "Down Low" thing has got out of hand. What amazes me is the fact that it is so easy to demonise black men, while showing black women as helpless poor victims of an evil animal. Below I have linked to a more postive and logical look at both the "facts" in this issue. The author also considers the reaction of the media (including the sinister Oprah), and the reaction of the US public (including black women). Relations between black men and women are already at an all time low, this is just driving us apart even more.

jim4146 writes "Okay Fellas,
I'm a newjack and feeling my way around this. Basically, I'm a happily married man with two lovely grown daughters. Want nothing but the best for them. With that said I am conciously aware of the legalized and socially accepted injustices that men face today. I'm sure this movement (Men's) will prevail...the question is how soon? Hopefully we'll live to see it. Anyway, I ran accross this link and am thinking of a good rebuttal for it. Not sure if you guys and gals want to do the same. Check it out...take care.

Did you know that “aggression against women” represents a war, and that “the domestic criminal laws are so under-enforced that they can be considered not there.” The speaker further explained, “International law doesn’t capture the reality that half of society is attacking the other half. This is a real war that has gone on for millennia.”
It’s hard to imagine a speech that is more inflammatory or hateful than the one that Catherine MacKinnon gave at Stanford Law School last week. The speech was sponsored by Women of Stanford Law and the Institute for Research on Women and Gender.
