Executive Director of SAFE-NH accepts nomination to the Board of Director's of NH TREE
Lee Newman, Executive Director of SAFE-NH and his wife were recently invited to attend the quarterly Board of Director's meeting and dinner of New Hampshire Transgender Resources for Education and Empowerment.
NH TREE is a non-profit Transgendered Rights organization which among other initiatives holds a Spring Summit (conference)on the campus of the University of New Hampshire in collaboration with the UNH Alliance for GLBTQ students.
Mr. Newman had met with Sarah Thompson the Executive Director of NH TREE several months ago to discuss future possible collaborations between the two organizations due to the fact that SAFE-NH provides services and support to Transgendered clients who have experienced intimate partner violence/domestic violence. Many Transgendered individuals "identify" as gay and lesbian as well as heterosexual so the fact that SAFE-NH counts ALL victims and survivors among their clients is conducive to some collaborative efforts between these organizations.
During the quarterly meeting ,Mr. Newman was asked to join as a Director, after nomination and voting was completed, Mr. Newman accepted a seat on the Board.
The Board then made decisions regarding upcoming initiatives and discussions listed on the agenda. Mr. Newman is looking forward to a positive and productive term with NH TREE."

Ray writes " VAWA Reauthorization: Billions for battered women, not a penny for battered men!
Mark Rosenthal writes: "Even after receiving $5.1 billion under the past two VAWA bills, battered women's advocates still argue that there's too little money, and therefore the government should allocate no funding whatsoever for organizations whose primary purpose is to help the 835,000 men the U.S. Dept. of Justice estimates are assaulted by their partner annually.7 Yet somehow there's enough money in the current $4.2 billion VAWA reauthorization bill to make special provisions for an estimated 32,600 Native Americans,8 but of course, only if those Native Americans are female. No males need apply."

I wonder how the article would look if it was oh, equal in information and interviewees. Nothing new here but it is amazing how blatantly MSN can take sides on these issues."

Congress reconvenes after Labor Day, a mere three weeks from now. Since the Violence Against Women Act expires September 30th, it's likely that the 2005 reauthorization bill will be one of the first things to be considered by Congress once they're back in session.
During the coming three weeks our lobbyists will be meeting with congressional staffmembers, working to convince them to remove the gender-bias from the bill. But those who want the discrimination to continue will be lobbying hard as well.

In my state, a man's average sentence for rape/sexual assault is 15.7 years, with a mandatory minimum of 6 years. Feminist justice in action?"
