In this Dayton Daily News article, D.L. Stewart discusses the overconcern with motherhood and the lack of concern with fatherhood in both news reporting and the courtroom. It's refreshing to see mainstream news that reveals the female-favoring disparity between treatment of men and women.

The answer is of course predictable. The closing comment:

Gloria Steinem once remarked that we'll know women have reached full equality when a mediocre woman can get as far as a mediocre man. Are we there yet?

We're still a long way from there. But women can avoid the trap of having to be better than their male colleagues in order to reach the same heights. I advise my students to think carefully before they join any organization—to avoid leaping at the first job offer they get. Figure out whether that company is likely to help you reach your goals, as well as vice versa. Of course, you can go to work in a male-dominated industry or at a company with few or no high-ranking women, but you must go in with your eyes open and be prepared to tough it out. Expecting the usual "it's all guys doing it" subtext, I was pleasantly surprised to read this on MSN. Despite the title it directly states, and repeatedly, that women cheat as often as men. Refreshing coming from MSN.

unrulypassenger writes "I haven't seen much here on the subject of the U.S. Supreme Court nominee and how the possiblitiy of Roe v Wade (abortion rights) being overturned would negatively impact the lives of all American males. Perhaps it's because this is primarily a Canadian forum, I'm not sure if I'm right on that. I suppose it would be an economic advantage to Canada and the other countries where abortions are obtainable. But American males' lives would be thrown back into the 20th Century/1950's backseat Chevy era and shotgun wedding times of yore ...not to mention the consequences of changes in child support laws, collection of social security numbers and all that has changed since the Pill and abortion rights. Men would be impacted far more than women and it looks as if that hasn't yet become apparent to many. There's not much we can do other than writing our Senators and keeping it zipped until we die. The television show described here may be viewable only on NZ TV, and late at night on a Wednesday at that, but it's still good to see that it's airing.
