Truth about DV in mainstream media

Facts continue to slip, on occasion, into reports by mainstream media. This article on CNN reports on DV by women against men. It ends with a bit about anger and frustration felt by many women, which to me sounds like an insinuation of an excuse, but on the whole it's a decent article.

BBC.com: "Woman jailed for Paris 'slavery'"

Story here. I wonder, why is the BBC using quotes in the headline of this article? I notice they do this a lot with not just these but other kinds of news items as well, perhaps as a way of avoiding accusations of bias of some kind. But it only makes them look (even more) stupid, IMHO. Excerpt:

The events began in 1990, when Mensah went to her country and brought the then 15-year-old Olivia back to France with the promise to her parents she would receive an education in return for a few hours' babysitting.

But the reality turned out to be completely different.

Once in Paris, Olivia was locked up in the house working 20 hours a day, and told to sleep in the basement.

She was badly beaten up, burned with cigarettes and sexually abused every time she was accused of making a mistake in her housework.

Female Teacher and 13-year-old Student

Anonymous User writes "Yep, it's a woman. Another female teacher caught having sex with an underaged male. At least this one is in jail after admitting to the whole thing. Who wants to bet she'll get off scott free? Also, included on this webpage is a bunch of hyperlinks to arrest records for other female teachers who did the same thing and got caught. Book mark it and email to the next person who claims that
only MEN do that sort of thing. Excerpt:

'APRIL 4--Meet Rachel Holt. The 34-year-old Delaware teacher is facing rape charges for allegedly having sex with a 13-year-old student 28 times during a one-week period last month.'"

Congresswoman Assaults Capitol Police Officer - Uses Ethnicity and Gender as Defense

Anonymous User writes "This little excerpt explains why a man in this stiuation would be arrested on the spot: he is white and male...

'WASHINGTON (CNN) -- As U.S. Rep. Cynthia McKinney, D-Georgia, faces possible criminal charges for a Wednesday altercation with a Capitol Police officer, one of her lawyers said Friday that the real issues were "sex, race and Ms. McKinney's progressiveness."

In a news conference featuring actor Danny Glover and singer Harry Belafonte, McKinney said she would be exonerated and that "this whole incident was instigated by the inappropriate touching and stopping of me, a female, black congresswoman.'

MSN and "Marie Claire": Women Must Trade Sex for Food

Read this. Excerpt:

In war-torn countries, food is frequently a barter tool through which women are exploited. In the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Uganda, and many other countries, “food for sex” is well documented by human-rights organizations: That is, food is withheld by peacekeepers (as in the case of the DRC) or local soldiers (as is the situation in Uganda) until women, at the brink of starvation, submit to sex.

Why Parenting Time Motions Fail and Child Support

Lary Holland writes "An overview of why parenting time motions are more likely to fail than child support motions are to succeed. Short concise statement of a major issue surrounding bias in the family courts.

After a Friend of the Court Citizen Advisory Committee (Michigan FOC) meeting an attorney indicated that it seemed that their parenting time motions seem to fail more frequently than child support motions succeed. This was a brilliant observation and I wanted to take a quick moment and tell you why."
