quetzal writes "The St. Petersberg (FL) Times has printed its second front-page article in a series about single dating. Here is an excerpt from the Tuesday installment:
"Pepper Schwartz, a sociologist at the Univ. of Washington (and also a 'Relationship Expert' on PerfectMatch.com) says: 'One group[of middle-aged single men]...is the men nobody wants...They don't earn money or they are obese... They are losers in the truest sense of the word.'"
Ed. note: Check out the discussion on this article here. Also take a look at the first installment in the series. As you may have gathered from the quotation above, the series tone is most definitely not male-friendly, and it's also incredibly shallow in its analysis as well. Maybe they'll do better on the next two parts but I wouldn't hold my breath. Among many other things, the picture that this stampede toward singleness and especially childlessness points to is quite clear: the problem of elder-care facilities being short on staff won't be improving any time soon!

Stan Gaver writes "I found a link on Monster.com entitled The Gender Wage Gap. I clicked it, expecting to find the same old lies and distortions about the so-called Wage Gap. As expected, the opening line included the typical BS, about how "...women in the US workforce still earn substantially less than their male colleagues."
I almost stopped reading right there, but decided to continue on, and was pleasantly surprised to find that most of the article, instead of simply repeating the same old feminist pay-gap mantra, actually rebutted the "discrimination" excuse. In fact, the article went on to include much of the information from Warren Farrell's new book "Why Men Earn More" and did a decent job of fairly presenting the "other" side of the issue.
A good sign that the truth is starting to come out."

Another high-profile case, this... we'll see where it goes. Excerpt:
Bianca Nardi, 28, of Fort Lee, N.J., says in court papers that the sexually charged atmosphere among the show's production staff was fostered by the "intimate and sexual relationship between defendants Maurice Richard Povich and Donna Benner Ingber."
...
Povich is married to the veteran television news anchor Connie Chung.
Gary Rosen, spokesman for the show, flatly denied the allegations, as did a spokeswoman for NBC Universal.
"We are aware of the allegations of harassment made by Ms. Nardi. We have done a complete and thorough investigation of her allegations of harassment and we are satisfied that there is no merit to them," Rosen said. "We stand behind our experienced and dedicated staff, fully."

Each year the parents of 1 million American children get a divorce.
In an estimated one-third of divorces, an allegation of domestic
violence is made, often in the form of a restraining order. These
restraining orders have become so widespread that they are referred to
as “silver bullets,” “slam-dunks,” or simply, “divorce planning.”
In half of all restraining orders, there is not even an allegation
of violence. (http://www.mediaradar.org/docs/VAWA-Restraining-Orders.pdf)
Even in those orders that do allege violence, often the person who
requested the order was mutually involved, the dispute was minor, or
the allegation of violence was flat-out false. So it is estimated that
80% or more of DV allegations represent trumped-up and even malicious
claims of domestic “violence.”

Big kudos to Bill for launching http://www.billsarena.com/. Let's hope it provides a place for children of divorce to find fellowship and resources.

Just won't seem to go away, this story. It has some of everything people love to gawk at and get worked up about.
The behavior of pretty much everyone in this case is reprehensible, all for different and varying reasons. The only question though anyone should be asking is, "Did a rape take place and if so, who did it?" Instead, money, politics (race and otherwise), class struggle and simple rudeness vs. comity all come together to form a great big massive stew of gunk. And is the actual, germane question in the matter really being asked? Will that be what goes on trial?
Relatedly, look at this from Kathleen Parker. Ms. Parker is usually a voice of reason in a lot of instances but IMO in this case she succomed to the urge to think inside the box. Note that she seems to think the LAX players are guilty, presumes them to be guilty, and doesn't seem to even allow for the chance that while they are not the sort of fellows you want in polite company, they may, just may, be innocent of the crime for which they stand accused (contrast the tone she has now with the tone she had on this same topic just recently; I wonder what prompted the changed?). Alas, as men, they will continue to be presumed guilty even if they are proven innocent. She also seems to utterly ignore the fact that strippers come in both sexes and are watched by both sexes-- just Google "chippendales" or look under "adult entertainment" in the Yellow Pages for all the proof you need.

Excerpt:
'The court papers include a 17-page declaration by Richards alleging that Sheen pushed her, shoved her and made threats against her and her parents. They also include transcriptions of telephone messages Richards said were left by Sheen in April 2005.
Sheen denied the allegations and the judge granted his request that he and Richards be allowed to tape record telephone conversations with each other. In a declaration signed Thursday, he said he and Richards had agreed to undergo counseling to "address parenting issues and to establish a mutually acceptable custody schedule," but that Richards stopped participating after two sessions.
He also alleged that he had been seeking overnight visits with the children but that last week, Richards "abruptly refused" to allow him any contact with them.'"

AngryMan writes "Top British scientist Susan Greenfield has voiced public concern about the use of Ritalin in the classroom.
“The use of Ritalin is probably having the effect of making the classroom more manageable,” said Susan Greenfield. “But we should be considering how to design the classroom to fit the child, rather than the other way around,” she said."

AngryMan writes "UK: A male teacher falsely accused of rape by a female student dies of cancer in prison and then has his name cleared by the Appeal Court. His 88-year-old mother has collected compensation from the government. The accuser, who remains anonymous, also accused another man, who was cleared. Lock this psychopath up. She is obviously a danger to the public. Story here."

Submitted by Patrick Bryant:
The feminist movement, which initially was based on the desire to achieve equality and dignity for women, has been hijacked by a core of mostly-lesbian misandrists who have turned it into a doctrine of hate, blame, and imagined superiority. Those three elements make it remarkably similar to Nazi doctrine.
This would all be of little consequence, and the movement would have been disregarded long ago along with the mindless blame and hateful mutterings of other extremist groups like the KKK and the Neo-Nazis, were it not for the fact that feminism has become an institution in American politics.

At this stage of it, it reminds me of The Bonfire of the Vanities. Latest is here. My prediction is that after thousands, perhaps millions, in legal fees are spent, there will be no trial, or if there is one, the case will be dismissed or the jury will acquit or return no verdict.
The lawyers will of course get rich off this case. Some will manage to capitalize off the whole thing while others will be effectively ruined. Now just guess which'll be which!

Roy writes "Apparently the nation where men proudly wear kilts is fast becoming the most feminazi-fied place on earth. In this article linked from AngryHarry's site, the Scots have decided it's better to coerce a man accused of domestic violence into a confession of guilt as quickly as possible. Excerpts:
'As a result, many vulnerable women are spared the trauma of giving evidence against their husbands or boyfriends.'
'Domestic abuse is unlike any other crime, it’s not like house-breaking or robbery or drug dealing,'... 'You are dealing with a specific complex set of circumstances in which the offender and victim are intimately connected. It is appropriate that the court system recognises that difference with specialist courts... a specialist court on domestic violence allows for the creation of a constructive atmosphere.'
In the U.S. thousands of counties are using VAWA money to establish similar "DV fast-track" gulags."
