Local editors battle over DV Stats and NCFM - Please Write letters of support!

Posted on behalf of Marc A.:
NCFM is caught up in a battle between two rival newspapers. One is honest and ethical about DV stats, etc., while the other insists on PCness, bias and reactionism. Please write letters in support of NCFM-LA and editor Steve Tobia of the Mountain Valley News. Tobia had printed a positive article on NCFM-LA that cited the DV data and admitted he was wrong in previously citing the 95% DV figure.
In response, editor Larry Wilson of the Pasadena Star News criticized Tobia, attacked NCFM and reactively dismissed NCFM's claim about gender and DV by quoting a local DV shelter and a cop but without looking at randomized research. Tobia then defended himself and the 50/50 data, citing Gelles and the New Hampshire Commission on the Status of Men, and challenged Wilson (.pdf file) for his PCness, bias and personal motives. He also printed two letters to the editor supporting NCFM-LA.

Harvard's Summers' Parting CNN Interview

Text here. Relevant excerpt:

AP: You have apologized for your controversial remarks that innate ability may partly explain why fewer women reach top-level science jobs, but you also said any idea should be on the table as a university. How do you reconcile that?

Summers: As president I bear responsibility for the signal that my remarks send, and the signal that was sent by those remarks was anything but what I intended or what I believe. And so I have taken responsibility for that. At the same time, no subject should be off limits for academic research in a university, and at a time when 30 percent more women are graduating from college than men, I think we ignore the whole topic of gender differences in learning styles very much at our peril.

A New Server, a New Lease on Life...

Mensactivism.org is back now, at least 99% of what I wanted to accomplish this weekend. There are still a couple of minor things I'd like to change, but I felt the rest of you would prefer that the site become available again ASAP.

If you're using Internet Explorer, the menu tabs at the top of the page look horrible, and I do intend to remedy that. There are some minor formatting issues from our old static pages that need some attention as well. But you should now be able to submit new stories and post comments on this story and stories posted after this one (all previous ones are frozen).

Please let us know about any problems that arise when using the new site: admin@mensactivism.org. Thanks for your patience, and we hope it was worth the wait!

Remember, all user accounts must be re-registered now. I was unable to migrate them from the old site due to complex dependencies in the old database.

MANN to Move to New Server This Weekend

www.mensactivism.org will be down this weekend (July 1-2) so that I can migrate the site to a new, faster, and much more modern server and web engine. This is an exciting change for the site, which has remained in its current state more or less since its inception in late May of 2000. The migration will not be as seamless as I would like, but it needs to be done because the old server and software it's currently running on is getting close to failure. Please Read More below to view some Q&A on the migration process.

Schoolgirl violence goes to trial

AngryMan writes "One of the girl-bullying cases reported on last year has gone to trial. One girl repeatedly punched another in school so that her head was banging against the wall. The next day the victim retaliated by slashing her attacker's face with a razor. The razor-wielding girl is in court. So much for the natural peace-loving nature of women."

Lawyer sues 'Don't Date Him' Web site

Anonymous User writes "Story here. Excerpt:

'The lawsuit filed on behalf of Mr. Hollis, 38, of East Liberty, said Ms. Joseph has "conspired with disingenuous people whose only agenda is to attack the character of those individuals who have been identified on her site." The suit says there are no protocols to ensure statements on the site are valid or truthful. Mr. Hollis, who has practiced criminal law for 12 years, claims statements posted on the site, which appear to be by different people, have affected his practice and family life.'"

Woman gets slap on wrist for $1.5M embezzlement

Return of the King writes "It seems that judges are reluctant to view women guilty of committing crimes without a man involved. In this case a woman embezzled more than $1.5 million from a credit union and bought more than 1,500 items, including hundreds of pairs of shoes and a $60,000 swimming pool, and was sentenced to a mere 27 months in prison (this is what men get for petty theft). The judge stated from the bench "You have a small fish here. Where are the big fish? No one else has been charged with a parking ticket in this case...? Translation: no men to blame? Also, this is under the "Odds and Ends" section of the paper..."

Must Be an MRA Working at Dictionary.com!

Stan Gaver writes "We all know how sexist and feminist-manipulated mainstream dictionaries have been in the past. For example, many didn't and some still don't include a definition for "misandry".

My son brought something to my attention today that sure surprised the hell out of me and brought a smile to my face. Check out the Word of the Day on Dictionary.com for June 29, at http://dictionary.reference.com/wordoftheday/archive/2006/06/29.html. Check out that first example for the word "timorous"... you won't believe it!

Put a smile on YOUR face today!"

Newsflash: Einstein's First Wife Behind the Theory of Relativity

Last night on the local public TV station, I saw Einstein's Wife, about Albert's first wife. It is implying strongly that she really was the one behind the theory of relativity as well as nearly everything else he did. It even has a poll asking viewers if they think she "collaborated" with Einstein for the creation of the momentus series of papers he published in 1905.

I knew it would come to pass. Soon Napolean Bonaparte will in fact have been a female, and every great world leader (the hero ones anyway) will have in fact been women or controlled by women.

Hitler and Stalin of course will remain men.

Female Psychopath gets Life

AngryMan writes "A 17-year old girl has been given life for the cold-blooded killing of an elderly woman. Her plan was to kill a defenceless old woman for her money. This killing of a neighbour was a test run. Was she desperate for money? No. Her father is a millionaire. He has now disowned her, and she will serve at least 20 years."

John Doe writes "A significant victory for fathers' rights in the UK: The Times reports that Fathers (and I would assume mothers) will now have the right to talk openly about family court cases.

Something to celebrate for a change...?"
