Godfather of Soul Gets Last Laugh

James Brown must be doing a soulful dance in heaven knowing that his bitch-wife #4 (who 911-d him with DV allegations) is learning how to sing the lyrics of his first hit song -- "Please, please, please!"

Article excerpt: "James Brown’s widow said Monday she was denied access to the home she shared with the singer and their 5-year-old son, claiming the gate was padlocked at the request of Brown’s lawyer and accountant. Tomi Rae Brown, 36, who was one of James Brown’s backup singers, said she was at a retreat when her 73-year-old husband died shortly after he was hospitalized in Atlanta. “The last thing he said to me was, ‘I love you baby and I’ll see you soon,”’ she told The Augusta Chronicle."

California Attorney General's wife takes over as head of "Family Justice Center"

Nadia Lockyer, the wife of outgoing California Attorney General Bill Lockyer, has just taken over as Executive Director of the Alameda County Family Justice Center in Oakland California. Please take a look at this brochure (.pdf file).

For those of you who do not know, the "Family Justice" centers are one stop shopping for people who allege domestic violence. But though by law they have to be gender neutral, they are being funded by grants from the US Department of Justice "Office on Violence Against Women" -- the OVW.

At the centers, women who claim to have been abused get free legal help, not just counseling with prosecutors, but child custody, divorce, and even immigration lawyers. Under a special loophole in the immigration laws, if a woman comes here on a marriage visa, and breaks up with her husband quickly, but alleges domestic violence, she can apply for a special visa and gain permanent entry to the United States.

Nifong in trouble! Misstatements may cost him his career

Special thanks to Joseph Neff and Benjamin Niolet, Staff Writers at the News and Observer for this article. Excerpt:

'DURHAM - To press forward in the Duke University lacrosse case, District Attorney Mike Nifong must rely on scanty evidence while deflecting serious questions about whether he broke the law or violated the ethics rules governing prosecutors.

Nifong has acknowledged that the case now hangs on what the accuser says from the witness stand in a hearing scheduled for February. Meanwhile, pressure on Nifong continues to build.'

Sun-Times: "False rape allegation an affront to women"

Article here. Excerpt:

"This is a betrayal. If this rape allegation was false, then it is the lowest thing a woman can do to other women."

"It's not just about the Duke case. It's about all the other cases involving a sports culture that objectifies women and rewards a ridiculous hubris and machismo."

"A real problem exists in this sports culture, and a false rape accusation in such a public case serves only to hurt the real victims everywhere else."

"Teen Talk Barbie proved to be the final straw. People who were already upset at Barbie’s anorexic figure and her way of turning play into superficial consumerism couldn’t believe their ears when Barbie’s electric voice box giggled:
“Math is hard!”
“I love shopping!”
“Will we ever have enough clothes?”

NYTimes: "Gender Pay Gap, Once Narrowing, Is Stuck in Place"

Article here.

Another article about the refuted wage gap. Typical "cherry picked" statistics that continue to manipulate society. I must be fair, some opinions in this article are generally more fair than typical wage gap articles. Excerpt:

"There is no proof that discrimination is the cause of the remaining pay gap, Ms. Blau said. It is possible that the average man, brought up to view himself the main breadwinner, is more committed to his job than the average woman."

"The other view is that women consider money a top priority less often than men do. Many may relish the chance to care for children or parents and prefer jobs, like those in the nonprofit sector, that allow them to influence other people’s lives."

NYTimes Editorial Sticks Up for Jailed Man

Thanks to Marc A. for the heads-up on this editorial in the NY Times. Excerpt:

'The library in Georgia where Mr. Wilson works is in prison. He is two years into a sentence for engaging in consensual oral sex with a 15-year-old girl at a New Year’s Eve party when he was 17. He won’t be eligible for parole until he has served 10 years, essentially sacrificing his remaining youth to an obvious miscarriage of justice.

As Shaila Dewan reported in The Times this week, Mr. Wilson has been convicted of aggravated child molestation even though he and the girl were both minors at the time. Even if he could win an early release, Mr. Wilson could not go home to his family. He would have to register as a sex offender and would be prohibited from living with his 8-year-old sister. It is all the more disgraceful because the Georgia Supreme Court last week refused to hear his appeal.'

Update on Children-in-Bay Murders: Insanity Defense

Remember this one? "Mom" is pleading not guilty by reason of insanity. Not at all unexpected, but thought you would weant to see it. Story here.

Notice the article calls her "mentally ill". Notice all her victims were boys. Excerpt:

"SAN FRANCISCO, California (AP) -- A woman who claimed God ordered her to make a human sacrifice chose to kill her three children instead of herself, making her guilty of murder, a prosecutor said Wednesday during closing arguments at the woman's trial.

Prosecutor Linda Allen asked jurors to use their heads, not hearts, to determine Lashuan Harris' fate.

The mentally ill Oakland woman threw her children into San Francisco Bay last year but has pleaded not guilty to three counts of murder by reason of insanity.
