Parents Blast School's 'Body Sock'

Here is an update on this ridiculous notion of locking children in some kind of "body sock" prison. If a teacher cannot handle a student, leave the profession, don't incarcerate them in some virtual prison. First came Ritalin, now a 'body sock'? Whats next? Excerpt:

'A Florida family is outraged over a teacher's use of a big, baggy "body sock" to calm their 4-year-old son after he went on a crying jag in class."

Patrick Holt, of Pinellas Park, has since yanked his son from Pinellas Central Elementary and claims he never gave permission for teachers to place the boy in the Lycra pillowcase-like sack in mid-December.
...
"My wife saw my son try to open up the body sock, and the teacher's aide went ahead and had him put it back up," Holt said."'

"Ontario gov't website to embarrass deadbeat parents"

Ontario's Liberal government is planning to post the pictures of "deadbeat" parents who have refused to pay their child support on a new website. Parents would be advised that their picture is about to be posted, giving them one last chance to pay up; news article here.

Ontario's ombudsman recently lashed criticism against the Ontario Family Responsibility Office (FRO), for being "inept" and having a "lackadaisical" attitude when it comes to collecting outstanding support.

For Example, name change that kept a dad from collecting child support is just the latest in routine "carelessness'' at the Ontario Family Responsibility Office tasked with collecting from deadbeat parents, Ontario's ombudsman said; news article here.

More orders coming down for men from on high

ABC News reports that Desperate Housewives' star Felicity Huffman has penned "a guide for guys who want to become good boyfriends (and the women who want to transform them)"... From the excerpts, this sounds like it may have succeeded in hitting a new level for rampant, unabashed misandry. Brace yourselves, `cause she's likely to get at least as much airplay as Maureen Dowd did fifteen months ago.

Um, wouldn't it be a whole lot easier for women to just choose someone they actually like to begin with? Be sure to click on the photo of Huffman looking 'fierce'.

"New York Silences Southern Belle"

bull referred to this article in a comment he posted here. It seemed like it deserved its own entry, so it got it! Excerpt:

'One particularly disturbing day, my professor said, "All of you who are victims of rape or attempted rape raise your hands." As more than half the class raised their hands, I began to think weird thoughts. I wondered if my college required a solid SAT score and emergency room records for admission.

It took me weeks to realize their definition of rape was not exactly Webster's. We began to study Andrea Dworkin who said, "Romance is rape embellished with meaningful looks." And Catherine MacKinnon who said, "Politically, I call it rape whenever a woman has sex and feels violated." And Marilyn French, who famously said, "All men are rapists and that's all they are." You can imagine my disillusionment to learn Mister Rogers of " Mister Rogers' Neighborhood," and Mahatma Gandhi were predators.'

Bloomberg: Britain's Angry Wives Target Bonuses in Divorce Cases

Story here. Excerpt:

"The climate is so favorable to ex-wives that divorce lawyer Jeremy Levison advises bankers and hedge fund executives to avoid the altar altogether. Pre-nuptial agreements offer little protection because U.K. judges aren't bound to follow them.

``Don't get married,'' said Levison, a partner at London- based family law firm Levison Meltzer Pigott. ``If you must, make sure your other half is as rich as you are.''"

NYTimes on Singles: Outdoing Itself Yet Again

There seems to be no end to how far the NYTimes can go in ignoring and/or minimizing men and our concerns. The latest is here. It's a commentary on a commentary. What's next, a commentary on that commentary? It's getting to be like an encyclopedia!

The whole time though, I can guarantee you that as long as the NYT is running it, it will not be pro-male. Check out the offensive "Frankendate" graphic the article includes, too. And in two pages of text, not a single discussion of the REAL reasons why men are avoiding marriage, but lots of stereotyping promulgated shamelessly. Excerpt:

Israel: Mother wins dead son sperm case

Story here.

Excerpt:
The lawyer of an Israeli couple who won the right to use their dead son's sperm to inseminate a woman he never met says the case is a boost for family rights.

Irit Rosenblum told the BBC the landmark ruling meant family lines could continue even without the written consent of the male prior to death.

The dead man, soldier Keivin Cohen, was killed in the Gaza Strip in 2002.

A court ruled in favour of his parents who had the sperm extracted after his death, although he had not left a will.

"The drama is international, that mankind is able to continue after [a man's] death and his family can raise a new generation while he is no longer here," Ms Rosenblum said.

Jerusalem Post: Advantage - mothers?

Article here.

Excerpt:
"All the old psychological studies say the mother is the most important figure in the life of a young child and the father is less important," continues Frishtick. "This theory needs to be reevaluated; today there are many fathers who want to raise their children and custody needs to be decided based on what is best for the child.

"Fathers need to have more rights or the custody needs to be shared equally. There are development issues that are enhanced by shared custody. It needs to move in the direction of a partnership," he states, adding that the conference was for informational purposes only and "no concrete conclusions were reached on the matter."

Interestingly, one women's rights activist, Ruth Halperin-Kaddari, is quoted as saying:

'This [law] is the only area in which women have more power than men in divorce disputes," she says. "If this is supported, it will have a serious impact, taking away what little power women do have.'"
