RADAR ALERT: Take Back Valentine's Day from the Abuse Industry

We here at RADAR would like your help to make sure that Valentine's Day retains it's traditional value as a special time to celebrate and enjoy the love, honor and respect that most men and women still hold for each other.

We need your help because some revisionists are using 'The Vagina Monologues' play as a vehicle for hate and condemnation, and a new, inappropriate symbol for Valentine's Day. They want the V of February 14th to be remembered, instead, as a symbol condemning men as being insensitive, cruel, abusive, stupid and uncaring. Worse, 'The Vagina Monologues' is disingenuous. It rightfully condemns male/female rape, but wrongfully celebrates female/female rape. See: http://www.ifeminists.net/introduction/editorials/2004/0127.html.

Annually, hundreds of showings of the 'The Vagina Monologues are performed around the country every year – mostly on college campuses. And hundreds of editorials trumpet an unseemly level of respect for these hate-filled offerings.

Amazon.com Promotes Violence Against Men as V's Day Fun

Amazon.com is running a female-oriented Valentine's Day promotion on their homepage that promotes violence against men. As always, this hate is billed as "simply humor" and "not to be taken seriously". We all know the score on that one, but the fact remains that Amazon.com now has a photograph of the, "man-shaped knife holder" on its homepage.

You know what to do...

F4J-USA: Fathers claim inequities in family court

Story here. Excerpt:

'Fathers 4 Justice, which protested with picket signs on Jan. 12, has scheduled a demonstration from 10 a.m. to noon Feb. 15 in front of the Lucas County Domestic Relations Courthouse, 429 N. Michigan St.

Judi Smith-Phelps, one of Fathers 4 Justice's national board of directors, said they want to educate the public on “real problems in family court.”

“The courts are assessing child support and alimony payments that put fathers in the poor house,” she said.

Smith-Phelps said if both parents are declared “fit,” children should have 50-50 access to them.

She said while some women are affected by court decisions, it is the men who are “overwhelmingly” affected.

“Most of the men would give every scrap of what they had to see their children,” she said.'

Canada: Liberals set to bar men in some ridings in bid to boost female candidates

Story here. Excerpt:

"OTTAWA (CP) — Liberal Leader Stephane Dion is prepared to take “extraordinary measures” to boost the ranks of women candidates in the next election, including barring men from seeking nominations in some ridings.

During last year’s leadership race, Dion promised that under his watch at least a third of the party’s candidates in the next election would be women.

But campaign organizers have concluded that the ambitious goal will be impossible to reach without some intervention to secure nominations for female candidates."

Patronizing to women, sexist toward men -- not to mention undemocratic. Nice combo.

Interesting that Stephane Dion didn't recommend that men be barred from running in the recent leadership race that he won.

Duped Dad Loses by unanimous decision in Florida Supreme Court

Story here. Excerpt:

"TALLAHASSEE - Richard Edward Parker seemed to have the perfect evidence to avoid child-support payments: a DNA test showing the child isn't his.

But he lacked something more crucial: timing.

Florida's Supreme Court unanimously ruled Thursday that the Fort Lauderdale boat worker missed a one-year deadline to file a claim against his estranged wife, Margaret J. Parker, for fraudulently representing his paternity when a court ordered him to pay support for the 3-year-old boy in 2001.

Parker didn't even know he was the father until 2003 -- long after the deadline expired -- through a paternity test he ordered when his ex-wife sued him for failure to pay about $1,200 monthly in child support."

Time Magazine: Duped Dads Fight Back

Story here. Excerpt:

"Advocates for these so-called duped dads say such men should be treated as victims of fraud and liken the need for paternity-disestablishment amendments to truth-in-lending laws. They point to many an egregious case in which the law's marital presumption of fatherhood has ended up enslaving a divorced dad, like the Michigan man who proved he had not sired his son but was still ordered to send child-support payments directly to the boy's biological father, who was granted custody after the mom moved out of his place and left the kid there. Increasingly, policymakers across the country are turning a sympathetic ear to such complaints. Florida last year joined Georgia and Ohio in allowing a man to walk away from any financial obligations regardless of how many years he may have been acting as a minor's father if he discovers he was deceived into parenthood. Fathers' rights groups in Colorado, Illinois and West Virginia are pushing for similar legislation that would remove or extend existing time limits for challenging paternity."

Canada: Man Faces Life in Prison Based Only on Testimony

Story here. The convicted man faces a possible LIFE SENTENCE based only on testimony, without proof or even evidence other than what the two accusers said. Let that sink in: LIFE IN PRISON based on uncorroborated testimony.

I am not saying he is innocent; I am saying, is it right that he was convicted for crimes which together carry a potential life sentence based *solely* on testimony, with no further evidence? Excerpt:

"A former linebacker in the Canadian Football League who is HIV-positive was found guilty of aggravated sexual assault for having unprotected sex with two unwitting women.

Trevis Smith, 30, was accused of not telling the women that he carried the virus that causes AIDS and of lying to one of them who even pressed him about persistent rumors of his malady.

Smith denied the allegations, saying both women were jilted lovers.
...
Sentencing in the case is expected on February 26. Smith faces possible life in prison, the provincial court clerk said.

Neither of the women has tested positive for HIV, said reports."

Anthes: Time has come to reconsider Title IX

Article here. Excerpt:

"Title IX strives to equalize all opportunities - not just athletic ones - but reached its greatest fame in sports. For one piece of government code, it has achieved great things.

But the jig is up. The sheen is gone. Title IX has run its course. It's time to say goodbye.

Title IX should be thrown away simply because it does not fulfill its purpose anymore. The text of the law prohibits discrimination based on sex, and a whole new round of discrimination is here. This time men are the victims."
