Mother disfigures boy to spite his father, gets jail

This is a horrendous story, but a positive outcome in that (for once) she isn't seen as the victim and needing help.

The mum was angry because the boy's father hadn't turned up to see him on this particular day - so she boils a kettle, calls him into the kitchen then pours it over the boy, scolding him over 20% of his body.

Excerpt:
'The judge at Cardiff Crown Court told the 36-year-old, who cannot be named, that she had "failed her first and greatest responsibility as a parent". Judge Phillip Richards added the mother had become "the danger" to her son.

The victim had told the court that he was still full of rage over his mother's actions and wanted to make her pay.

He said he did not tell anybody about the incident until the autumn of 2004, because she had told him she would kill herself if he did.'

Like I said, unbelievable she would do it to her own son but so positive that she's facing serious jail time and (at least in this article) nobody is rushing to defend her and make her out to be the victim.

More "femme fatale" pedaling of murder-by-proxy

Story here. Oh how the press eats it up! Sexy ex-stripper goads fiance #2 to kill fiance #1 using a Hollywood script and her own "wiles". Has all the makings of not one but five Oprah episodes and dozens of made-for-TV movies.

Body count: 2. Fiance #1 dead, fiance #2 in jail

Meanwhile a sociopath gets all the limelight she can handle. Let's see how much time if any she actually gets. She'll probably make a fortune on book deals and appearances.

Excerpt:

'ANCHORAGE, Alaska - In the 1994 movie “The Last Seduction,” a femme fatale coaxes her lover into killing her husband for money. Prosecutors say a beautiful stripper obsessed with the film followed the script to its murderous end.

Mechele Linehan, 34, is on trial on charges she masterminded the decade-old slaying of her fiancé in hopes of collecting $1 million in insurance.

Life and art were so similar, prosecutors say, that they even sought, unsuccessfully, to have the movie shown to the jury.'

Hillary in her own words: Gender is all she has to run on

Story here. Excerpt:

'But Clinton is campaigning in large part on her gender; she noted during a swing through the state this week that she couldn't run as anything else. She is making appeals to women and the voters who support them in subtle and direct ways.

She says she's not running because she's a woman, but because she is the most qualified and experienced person for the job. But at every stop, she used her potential to break through the ultimate glass ceiling as part of her closing argument for voters to elect her.'

Wrongly Imprisoned Man Freed in Texas

Story here. Excerpt:

'A man who spent a dozen years in prison for a rape he didn't commit was freed Tuesday, the third inmate to be released because of problems with the Houston Police Department's crime lab.
...
Houston officials have been struggling to fix the crime lab for years. An independent audit in 2002 raised concerns about DNA analysis procedures. In June, a former U.S. Justice Department inspector hired by the city cited hundreds of "serious and pervasive" flaws in forensic cases handled by the lab.'

Husband 'burned while wife got washing in'

Via Gary. Story here.

Gary writes: "Hmm, does it really take Sherlock Holmes to work this one out? Man is worth two and a half million pounds, tells his wife he wants a divorce. Wife says “You will NOT divorce me”.

Husband goes out to shed, which then mysteriously explodes, burning him to death. Whilst he is burning to death, the wife BRINGS IN THE WASHING!

She then takes the cash and moves to Australia with the riches to buy a house where she sets up with her boyfriend.

Now, I wonder who did it – couldn’t have been a woman, MUST have been a man..."

Excerpt:

'As Jennifer Chubb professed her innocence in Bellingen yesterday, a British court was told she allegedly rushed to take washing off the line while her husband Andrew burned to death when his backyard shed burst into flames in 2001.

Andrew Chubb, 58, died in the shed fire after he apparently told his wife he wanted a divorce so he could move in with his lover Kerry Sparrow.

Story Submission Back On-line

Thanks again everyone for your understanding - web-based story submissions are now working again. I don't say this often enough, or often at all, but the news story submissions from our users are the thing that makes Mensactivism.org what it is today, and I greatly appreciate all the time and effort people put into creating content for this site.

I realize at the same time there are improvements we could make to help resolve the inevitable disputes that have occasionally come up regarding what content gets posted as stories and what doesn't. I want you to know that I'm continuing to look into solutions that will better address these problems. Keep an eye out for more site changes along these lines by the end of this year.

More student paper exposure re DV

Via Marc A. Story here. Excerpt:

'Angelucci said only two shelters exist in California that serve male domestic violence victims as well as female. In the past, many domestic violence shelters would even train their staff to treat all male callers as perpetrators no matter what the circumstances, Angelucci said.

Martin Fiebert at Cal State Long Beach said the mass media often contributes to this neglect of male victims by framing domestic violence only as "battered women" or primarily as male crime, and by citing inaccurate data.'

U Conn Student Paper: "The Hidden Side Of Domestic Violence"

I believe this is a direct result of our news release. They don't mention NCFM but they cited the same data we did, and in the same way. Marc A.

Article here. Excerpt:

'Cultural stigmas attached to males prevent society from recognizing domestic violence cases the gender suffers from.

Kathleen Holgerson, the director of the Women's Center, said that the cultural stigmas attached to men often keep male victims from reporting their domestic violence cases.

Men are stereotypically "tough" and thus many men feel it is considered a weakness on their part to allow their partner to subject them to such abuse.'

"Women Who Batter, Proudly"

Via anthony. Article here. Excerpt:

'A recent survey by the Centers for Disease Control found that among physically aggressive couples, 71% of the instigators in nonreciprocal partner violence were female. And last year Renee McDonald of Baylor University published a study in the Journal of Family Psychology with almost identical results.
...
The problem isn't just gals who clean their boyfriends' clock in a drunken rage. These high-testosterone females abuse their men and then come clean with a swaggering braggadocio.

A few months ago ABC Primetime did an experiment. The producers hired two actors - male and female - to feign partner violence in a public park. They wanted to see what passers-by would do when they spotted the woman pounding her boyfriend with a rolled-up newspaper.'

Teacher guilty on sex count

Via anthony. Story here. Excerpt:

'Pleading guilty to six counts of indecent treatment of a boy under the age of 14, plus 20 counts of indecent treatment of a boy under the age of 17, King then had to sit in the court dock on tenterhooks for almost three hours as her lawyer Tony Kimmins argued why she should not go to jail.

In the end he was successful, with Senior Judge Gilbert Trafford-Walker sentencing King to three years' jail on each count, to be served concurrently – but all wholly suspended for three years and six months.
...
Ms Brisick said at the time of the offences, from 1977 to 1982, carnal knowledge of a female by a male was an offence but not that of a female against a male, which is why the charges had proceeded along indecent dealing lines.'

Where the boys aren't: In college

Via anthony. Story here. Excerpt:

'Factors such as changing societal norms, women’s superior high school academic performance and higher career expectations could be responsible for the increase, Frank Guzik, associate director of admissions at IPFW, says.

“It’s not just the numbers,” he says. “It’s the reason why. Most colleges and universities, ourselves included, have made efforts to make college admission more accessible to women. And we’ve been really successful at it.”'

Visa program gives victims chance to help law officials

Via Marc A. Story here. Excerpt:

'Under the program, immigrants temporarily can live and work in this country legally as long as they help law enforcement officials investigate and prosecute the offenders.

The "U" visa, approved by Congress in 2000 as part of a law providing investigators and prosecutors legal muscle to fight the growing human trafficking industry, was mired in delays as the government analyzed local, state and federal criminal laws to decide which immigrants would be eligible.'
