"WASHINGTON – More than three years ago, a Maine district court judge ruled that Geoffrey Fisher no longer had to pay child support for a child that wasn't his.
But that didn't stop the state from revoking Fisher's driver's license and coming after him for thousands of dollars it says he owes in back payments.
...
As the nation experiences an unprecedented increase in unwed motherhood, more men are finding themselves named as "fathers," for purposes of child support, simply because of their ability to pay, say several recent studies.
It's called "paternity fraud," and one state that examined the problem found as many as 30 percent of those paying child support were, indeed, not the biological fathers of the children being supported."

'Multiple combat deployments to Iraq are increasing serious mental health problems among soldiers, triggering drug and alcohol abuse and contributing to record suicide levels, suggest reports out Thursday at the American Psychological Association meeting in Boston.
...
More time in Iraq means heavier exposure to violence, which leads more soldiers to develop symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and depression, Castro told the psychology meeting. By their third tour to Iraq, more than a quarter of soldiers show signs of mental problems, such as PTSD, and it's about 1 out of 3 for those exposed to heavy combat, according to a U.S. Army Surgeon General report in March on more than 2,000 soldiers.'

'A Lynnwood woman who told police Monday a stranger came into her apartment and sexually assaulted her has changed her story, police said.
The woman, 18, admitted to detectives the assault had not occurred, Lynnwood police Cmdr. Jim Nelson said. She provided a statement to police that said she hadn’t intended for things to get this far and that the entire incident did not happen.
...
Detectives will refer the case to the Snohomish County Prosecutors office who will determine if there’s enough evidence to charge the woman with false reporting.'

Essay here. Excerpt:
'When girls were thought to be in trouble academically, we said "There must be something wrong with the schools," and we changed them to be more girl-friendly. But there is no similar push to assist boys academically. Instead, when boys don't do well in school, we blame the boys.
I had a Petaluma City Schools trustee -- a man -- tell me that the reason boys are behind girls academically is "because they're stupid." I had another man from the Petaluma City Schools -- a teacher -- tell me the reason was "because they're lazy."'

Another 3-year-old boy died in a hot vehicle in Houston late Wednesday afternoon.
No charges have been filed in either case.'

Story here. Excerpt:
'The 32-year-old woman, named only as Steffi K., had been found guilty of killing the boys, aged between 3 and 9 years old, in the village of Darry in the northern state of Schleswig-Holstein.
Police had found the bodies of the five boys in a house in Darry last December. The woman gave herself up and admitted doping the children before killing them.
"She told the court and the psychologist that she had heard voices threatening the children and she wanted to protect them. She killed them because she believed she was protecting them from these evil powers," said a spokesman for the court in Kiel.'
I don't know what to say, I mean no jail? No Death Sentence? She gets help? It sounds like a joke to me.

Frostyboy on antimisandry.com led me to a feministing.com article, which included a link to this article.
~~~~~~
I was pretty amazed at the article (also available as mp3 stream) and shared it with Glenn Sacks, and figured you folks might be quite interested in this too.
REPORTER: Bunch suggests it should read, "the leading cause of injury to women is men’s violence."
~~~~~~
Naturally, no women are ever violent, commit d/v and so the program does not appear to need to help them deal with their sexism/violence/etc.

Here is an article about women who cheat and "why". It starts off mentioning crud about men and women cheating for different reasons and how it is usually (but not always) physical reasons for men and emotional reasons for women. They can throw in the "not always" but sometimes it seems like any woman who wants to cheat for sexual or physical reasons could do so and then use ANY of the excuses plotted out in this article.

Here is a Big Brothers Big Sisters Agency recruitment ad targeted to men which starts off portraying masculinity as stupid and foolish, but then says that boys need a positive adult male role model. The second point is good, but they portray men as idiots as their first point. I used to have a big brother from the agency when I was a kid! He said when I'm older I should volunteer. But after seeing that ad I doubt I will now that I know they are bashing the same men they expect to be role models to young boys.
Here is another reason why I won't volunteer.

'A Webster woman accused of plowing into a crowd of people and killing a Greece man and injuring four others early yesterday, pleaded not guilty in City Court this morning.
...
Rochester Police said Arena had been arguing with someone in the bar and then in the lot shortly before she allegedly drove into the crowd. The nature of the dispute was unclear. Sgt. Mark Beaudrault said alcohol was not a factor in the incident.
Coleman may have recognized Arena, but he was not involved in the dispute that prompted the violence, friends and police confirmed. Arena’s intended target was not known.
...
Arena’s attorney Ronald J. Passero also declined to comment on the charges, but noted that the crash “was an accident.”'

Please comment in support of the cyclists who are undertaking this cycling trek and also in support of the DC Festival 2008. Thank you MensActvism Readers! Article here. Excerpt:
'On Aug. 15-16, thousands of people will come together in support of parental rights at the DC Festival 2008.
"Parental rights are one of those natural rights that are and should be protected against intrusion by the government," said Lary Holland, head organizer of this massive event. "It is our responsibility as citizens to remind the government of its limitations."
There is tremendous support for the DC Festival 2008 based on media and blog coverage and numerous elected officials such as U.S Congressman Pete Hoekstra (H.J. Res. 97) and state representatives John Stahl (MI H.J. Res. NN) and Lamar Lemmons Jr.'
