'A quietly spoken father of three, he finds that his life rarely gets more exciting than his weekly game of golf. But when he called the social workers as requested, he was confronted with a series of astonishing facts.
They said he was the father of another child - a five-year-old son from a previous, short-lived relationship. A former girlfriend, unable to cope with the demands of motherhood, had handed the boy over to foster parents.
A meeting with this new-found son was out of the question, he was told, let alone any sort of relationship. He was also informed that the boy was to be formally adopted and that the council was ringing merely to let him know.'

'GREENS MP Ian Cohen has spoken for the first time of the humiliation of being accused of domestic violence.
...
In April, Cohen was summonsed on charges of assault and assault occasioning bodily harm after his former partner, Donna Davis, alleged he attacked her on June 22, 2006. She went to police in January of this year, sparking a long investigation.
Yesterday, Mr Cohen, 57, was relieved his seven-month ordeal was over, but he said the emotional scars of being shunned by some MPs and Greens, abused by strangers in the street and branded a wife-basher would take a long time to heal.

'It is not men’s fault. I believe it is part of their genetic makeup. And until some genius scientist finds a way to alter their genes to prevent them from being threatened by successful women, this will remain a volatile topic.
Women will continue being viewed as the weaker sex, and any attempt to rescue themselves from that stereotype will send the Tony Ms of the world running scared, terrified that the IWTs are out to emasculate them and take away their balls.
Sorry, guys. Your world domination is getting diluted every day. Women are putting down their lesos, strapping on their stilettos, and marching into offices to give PowerPoint presentations. They are doing it all, and going home at the end of the day to breastfeed their kids while still donned in their dryclean only power suits.'

'SYDNEY, Australia (AP) -- Thirteen-year-old Lukas Moeller has Down syndrome. His father is a doctor who came to Australia from Germany to help fill a shortage of physicians in rural communities.
But now Australia has rejected Dr. Bernhard Moeller's application for residency, saying Lukas does not meet the "health requirement" and would pose a burden on taxpayers for his medical care, education and other services.
The case has provoked an outcry in the rural region of southeastern Victoria state, where Moeller is the only internal medicine specialist for a community of 54,000 people. Residents rallied outside Moeller's practice this week, demanding that the decision be overturned, and hundreds of Internet and radio complaints from across the country bombarded media outlets Friday.'

'According to cops, Horvath a married mother of four, reportedly approached the teen about her "feelings" last spring and the two carried on a torrid affair during the summer months before being discovered this fall. According to the arrest affidavit the two lovers allegedly have sex in various place, mostly in parked cars, as many as 25 times, including once in a Walmart parking lot where they were caught naked by the cops. What happened to them? The police asked the teen if he was PAYING FOR SEX and then let them go. That's some nice police work there Lou.
The worst part of the story? One of Horvath's own sons is a classmate of the victim, and has since had to be transfered to another school. Yeah, probably wouldn't be cool to be walking around the halls of your school with people talking about your mom having an alleged affair with one of your friends.'

'PRINCETON — Women with battered eyes and bruised souls have become the symbols of domestic violence in America, but one organization is working to change the perception that all domestic abuse manifests itself physically on the outside and that women are the only victims.
Men and Women Against Discrimination (MAWAD) formed in West Virginia to expose the untruths behind the theory that men are always the aggressors, pursue a family court system that recognizes and honors each parent’s role in a child’s upbringing and to seek “truth, justice and equality in family law.”
Along the way, organizers say they discovered there are many men out there who are just as abused as any of their female counterparts, that the court system all too often ignores their wounds and that the very systems put in place to stop domestic violence can be manipulated and twisted into another form of abuse during divorce and custody negotiations.'

'According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV), one in every four women will experience domestic violence in her lifetime.
The NCADV also reports that a staggering 1.3 million women are victims of physical assault by a partner each year. Don't be fooled though, domestic violence also includes verbal, emotional, and psychological abuse as well. Whether someone endures constant put downs, verbal threats or mental domination, this is still considered domestic violence.'
