UK: Men will suffer from new laws on sex discrimination, academic warns

Article here. Excerpt:

'Dr Catherine Hakim argues that existing legislation has already eradicated sexism against women, and that the remaining gender pay gap is down to the different career choices made by men and women.

She accuses feminists of peddling "myths" about the extra hours put in by women and their thwarted career ambitions to justify "futile and perverse" attempts to help them balance work and family life.

And Dr Hakim, a senior research fellow at the London School of Economics, warns that any further strengthening of equality laws on employment – for instance by forcing both mothers and fathers to share parental leave – risks damaging the career prospects of men.'

"National Men Make Dinner Day"

Article here. Maybe next year they'll have 'National Women Shovel Snow Day'. Excerpt:

'Non-cooking men, should you be game to celebrate National Men Make Dinner Day, here are the ground rules, as paraphrased from the official holiday Web site:

- Dinner must be made from a "published" recipe from either a cookbook or the Internet. The recipe should contain a minimum of four ingredients and use at least one cooking utensil other than a fork. Check the above mentioned Web site for some deliciously simple recipes.

- Man must do all the shopping for any ingredients that aren't already in the kitchen.
...
- Man is responsible for setting table nicely with candles, as well as cleaning up the kitchen as he goes, clearing the table, and loading the dishwasher.'

Woman indicted on charges of molesting teen

Story here. Excerpt:

'Sarah E. Ellison, a 31-year-old woman who ran a day care center at her Fort Meade home, was indicted by a federal grand jury yesterday on charges that she repeatedly molested a 14-year-old boy.

Ellison is the first Maryland woman indicted for sexual abuse of a minor under the two-year-old Project Safe Childhood Program, a partnership among state, local and federal officials designed to combat sexual exploitation of children.

According to the two-count indictment, the boy attended a middle school with Ellison's two stepchildren, whom he considered friends. He would sometimes hang out at her house after school because of the relationships. Between November 2005 and June 2006, the indictment alleges, Ellison and the boy had sexual contact by "touching each other between 10 and 20 times and, on occasion, mutually masturbating each other."

Treasury Secretary Short List: Lawrence Summers

Story here. Excerpt:

'Larry Summers, President Clinton's last treasury secretary, is reportedly at the top of the list of candidates being considered to fill the role of chief financial officer of the government.

And he probably should be.

Summers' economic credentials are sterling -- an undergraduate degree from MIT and a doctoral degree in economics from Harvard. He has written influential academic papers, became one of the youngest tenured professors in Harvard's history at the age of 28 and served as chief economist of the World Bank. He even worked as an economic adviser in the Reagan administration.
...
After leaving Treasury in 2001, Summers became the president of Harvard. His tenure there was marked by a series of controversies.

The most damning was when he said basic genetic differences between the sexes may be one reason why fewer women succeed in math and science careers.'

Forbes: Women Don't Make Better Leaders

Article here. Excerpt:

'They may not know it, but these men are what academics call "difference" or "cultural" feminists, believing that women deserve equal rights not because, as humans, they are basically the same as men, but because of their differences--and even that those differences in some ways make women superior.

"Inside the Mind of the Boy Dating Your Daughter"

Article here. An amazing report. Excerpt:

'The stereotype of the 16-year-old boy is that he has sex on the brain. But a fascinating new report suggests that boys are motivated more by love and a desire to form real relationships with the girls they date.

The report, published in this month’s Journal of Adolescence, paints a far different picture of teen boys than the stereotype of testosterone-fueled youth. Psychology researchers from the State University of New York at Oswego surveyed 105 10th-grade boys whose average age was about 16. The boys, most of whom said they were heterosexual, were given surveys asking them to select various reasons why they asked girls out, dated and pursued physical relationships. Most of the boys had dating experience, and about 40 percent were sexually active.'

Father creates music video "A crime to be a man"

Presentation by Mr. Joakim Ramstedt from Gothenburg, Sweden, the musician:

"My hope is that you will spread this film to as many as possible. I want my country to feel ashamed of what they are doing to our children.

Sweden is violating the UN children's rights act article 9 that states that a child has the RIGHT to a close and intimate relationship with both its parents. In Sweden, fathers are losing custody in 95% of all cases. It doesn't matter if the mother is unfit. She wins anyway. That is abuse and torture for the men and children that are affected, and it's causing a lot of problems for the kids in their life. This needs to stop."

New Hampshire now has female-majority Senate

Story here. I found it ironic; New Hampshire also has the country's only state-funded Commission on the Status of Men, too. Excerpt:

'New Hampshire’s State Senate is now unlike any in the country and unlike any before it. After Tuesday’s election, women now make up the majority of the New Hampshire State Senate. In an election year that saw Hillary Clinton, Sarah Palin, and Nancy Pelosi grab headlines and airtime across the country, New Hampshire didn’t just vote blue, it voted for women.
...
Previously ten women held senate seats out of twenty-four in Concord, but now they hold thirteen.'

Imagine that, "gender-representative parity" all without having to get the legal system to mandate it? Will wonders never cease? But what if by 2012, 75% of the NH Senate is made up of women? Will there be a push on by those women to get more men into the Senate like there has been for years the other way? I guess we'll see. But <<let's don't>> hold our breaths, hmm? :)
