'When many parents think of Girl Scouts, they imagine young girls in uniform selling Thin Mints and Tagalong cookies – not learning about stone labyrinths, world peace, global warming, yoga, avatars, smudging incense, Zen gardens and feminist, communist and lesbian role models.
But that's exactly what many of 2.7 million Girl Scouts will learn about with a new curriculum called "Journeys" released last year.
...
They will be briefly introduced to Polish poet Anna Swir, known for her feminist and erotic poems, and Jane Addams, an ardent feminist and pacifist who received a Nobel Peace Prize.
...
In the next age group, for teens in the ninth and tenth grades, girls are taught about wage disparities between the sexes, and a lack of assets and senior management positions held by women.'

In pop star Pink's new music video for Please Don't Leave Me, she is seen beating the living daylights out of some poor guy who appears to be in her clutches. I guess she wanted to do a sort of tongue-in-cheek sort of homage to "Misery". At the end, as the guy's being carried away on a gurney, the police are just hovering over her and at the very end she gives the camera a wink.
First of all, think about if the situation was in reverse. The video would probably not even see the light of day. Yet, it's perfectly okay to show a video by a popular FEMALE artist where she's beating up a man?
Secondly, consider that Pink is considered a role model for young girls. What message is this sending them? That it's perfectly okay to beat the hell out of some guy just to get him to stay?
Apparently, Pink believes that violence against men is not only okay, it's also a good ploy for selling records. Either way, I think it's messed up.

Poor wimmin who break the law should be spared prison. This 'Crook' woman is a complete and utter imbecile. Even the Guardian readers are making her look idiotic! Article here. Excerpt:
'In pay, pensions, politics and promotion, the gender gap is a disgrace. But in justice, women face a national scandal. A report published today by the Fawcett Society reveals a justice system that is "institutionally sexist". This is of no surprise to organisations such as the Howard League, which have long campaigned against the hopeless situation of women rotting in our prisons.

'A veteran Edmonton taxi driver is speaking publicly about a civil lawsuit he filed last year against four young women who falsely accused him of sexual assault after travelling in his car three years ago.
"I just want to give those girls [a] lesson," Soner Yasa told CBC News. "We're so vulnerable as a cab driver."
The lawsuit, filed by Yasa in Edmonton's Court of Queen's Bench in April 2008, seeks nearly $250,000 in damages to cover emotional and mental distress. His allegations have not been proven in court. One of the four young women filed a statement of defence last month in which she admits to getting into Yasa's taxi but denies the rest of his allegations.'

'A Waco woman who sliced her boyfriend’s throat in June and then married him in March was sentenced to 10 years of probation Tuesday.
A 54th State District Court jury of nine women and three men deliberated about an hour before granting Tasha Nicole Delao’s request to be spared from prison in the assault of her husband, the father of her five children.
Delao, 29, pleaded guilty Monday to aggravated assault charges in a June 25 incident in which Archie McLeain was cut twice on the neck during an argument at her home in the 1000 block of Harlem Street. His wounds required 36 stitches, trial testimony showed.'

'A 78-year-old Lynnwood woman has been charged with second-degree assault after she allegedly beat the tar out of her 84-year-old husband because she believed he was unfaithful, the Everett Herald is reporting.
The woman allegedly hit her husband with a bowl, a metal pipe and a carpet sweeper, which she documented in her diary.
"I beat him again," the woman wrote in the diary, which was recovered by police. "I told him it would be worth going to jail just to watch him bleed to death," she wrote.
A witness told police the woman believed her husband had an affair 35 years ago, according to court documents.'

'A WOMAN who cried rape against her boyfriend later smashed his car window.
Adelyn Marsden continued her relationship with Graham Smith despite falsely accusing him of rape, Durham Crown Court heard.
She was given a suspended prison sentence for that offence in November of last year.
...
"The false allegation of rape was made in the heat of the moment, but she retracted it quickly afterwards.
"That may be why the court was able to suspend the sentence, which on the face of it does seem a lenient penalty for that type of offence.
"I have a letter from Mr Smith in which he says he forgives her and he still sees a future together for the pair of them."'

'The printed media is often accused of having a hidden agenda, or a pronounced political slant to one party or set of ideals. It is refreshing therefore to read Kevin Myers' contributions on the subject of gender in your publication.
His recent column on the Michael Hannon case (Irish Independent, May 5) highlighted the clear double standards that pressure groups have when the victim doesn't conform to their gender expectations.
Rape is a heinous crime, but just as we condemn and punish perpetrators, we should do so equally to those who falsely accuse men of this crime.
A few high-profile cases in the UK recently clearly highlighted that some people believe that the rape accusation itself is as much evidence as is needed.'

'A 36-year-old woman had been arrested in Tembisa for perjury yesterday after laying a false charge of rape, Gauteng police said.
Captain Manyadza Ralidzhivha said the woman had opened a case of rape in February. She alleged that she had been raped by a pastor when she went to assist with tea at a church.
During investigations, police questioned her and she revealed that she had gone to the man's house, but that he had not raped her.'

'SPRINGFIELD, Mo. | Prosecutors have dropped their case against a Greene County woman accused of making a false rape claim that resulted in a massive investigation.
The Springfield News Leader reported on its Web site that the making a false report charge was dismissed Friday after prosecutors found that there was not enough evidence to prove that the woman's tale was fake.
The investigation began in July 2007 after deputies who responded to a call from the woman found her bound and partially nude behind a barn near her home.
Authorities spent hundreds of hours investigating before prosecutors charged the woman in July 2008. They alleged that she had injured and bound herself before calling police.'

'VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. -- A former Volusia County teacher who had sex with a student, but hasn't avoided children, still won't go to prison for her crime. Cynthia Horvath was given probation in her sex case, but then she violated that probation by chatting online with a boy.
Horvath had a hearing Wednesday at the Volusia County courthouse for violating her probation. What was at stake here was the former cheerleading coach could have gone straight to prison for at least three years.
But what it came down to was, when she was on the Facebook web site, did she really believe she was communicating with a 16-year-old boy? The state couldn't prove that she did.'

'“I have no question in my mind about being bisexual.
“But I'm also a hypocrite.
“I would never date a girl who was bisexual, because that means they also sleep with men, and men are so dirty that I'd never want to sleep with a girl who had slept with a man.”'
As I said in my previous post on her earlier comments about how she "hates men", boycott this woman. Do not do anything that may lend to her cash-flow. She is a misandrist of the worst kind and is at the same time making her living off of men.

'“[P]rivate collection agencies often fail to deliver any genuine services. Instead, they strip income from low and moderate-income families that could have been spent on housing, childcare, clothing and school expenses, or saved for their children’s education. They trap custodial parents in perpetual contracts.
“They also exploit the child support indebtedness of low and moderate-income non-custodial parents through the use of predatory and abusive tactics that increase their debt levels and often destroy their credit histories and interfere with parenting relationships.
“A number of private child support companies bring to the table a history of consumer complaints, bar association ethics complaints, and litigation filed against them.”'

Update from Glenn Sacks' newsletter here. Excerpt:
'Two weeks ago we launched a protest campaign against Lifetime’s Deadbeat Dads.
Lifetime has received over 5,000 calls, letters, and faxes from our supporters, and our protest garnered press attention and the endorsements of nearly 200 mental health, family law and medical professionals, and other prominent citizens. We also drew support from the Center for Law and Social Policy (CLASP), which advocates for low income families.
This campaign was an early, preemptive strike–if the show does air, it won’t be for several months. We have made our point, and have decided to suspend the campaign against Deadbeat Dads. We will continue to monitor the situation, and if in the future we have good reason to believe that Lifetime will be going ahead with the show, we will renew our efforts. The campaign web page will remain up, as will all relevant information concerning the campaign.
Thanks to all of you who participated.'
