'EXCLUSIVE Adelaide private school Pembroke is about to become even more so - particularly if you're a male.
The Kensington Park school has been granted a three-year exemption to anti-discrimination laws, allowing it to correct a gender imbalance within its junior ranks.
Boys will be turned away from Years 1 and 6, and girls will be turned away from Year 4.
The ruling by the Equal Opportunity Tribunal comes after the recent expiration of a previous similar exemption granted to the school in 2006.
According to evidence provided by the school to the Equal Opportunity Tribunal of SA, 61 per cent of Pembroke's 2010 enrolment for Year 1 and 6 will be boys, while Year 4 will be 60 per cent girls.'

'He was accused of rape and jailed for more than three months before officials realized they couldn't prove their case. The woman, a mental patient, apparently lied, prompting even the prosecutor to call her the most “out-of-touch-with-reality victim he'd ever seen.”
But the accusation did its damage — emotionally and financially. He has nothing left.
“Even being cleared, there is a fog that's quite heavy that hangs over me,” Doke said. “You can't get rid of it.”
...
Doke was jailed for that incident, but he was acquitted of all charges except one: obstructing a peace officer. While in jail, a female friend, Barbara, wrote to him every day. Then, later, he put a new engine in her truck, but he wouldn't return it to her until she paid him for it. She told police he stole it. He earned a misdemeanor theft by receiving charge, for which he remains on probation today.'

'The woman who falsely accused four men of gang-raping her in a Hofstra University dormitory bathroom is "likely" to face charges this week, a law enforcement official said, as the case became fodder for Nassau District Attorney Kathleen Rice's election opponent.
The woman, an 18-year-old freshman who has not been identified by authorities, probably will be charged "within days," said the official, who spoke Sunday on condition of anonymity because the probe is ongoing.
Nassau police and the district attorney's office are awaiting "a few pieces of corroborating evidence," the official said.
...
Watson, who was in charge of sex-crime prosecutions under former District Attorney Denis Dillon, said Rice should have charged the young woman "immediately."
...
While Rice has called the female student "a very troubled young woman in need of some help," Watson said decisions about "leniency" should be made "after charges have been brought."

Excerpts:
'The Department of Gender and Women's Studies offers an array of diverse courses that cover a plethora of disciplines.
"We've been seeing a steady increase in students, and a lot of it is because of the Men and Masculinity course," Sharoni said.
...
The department focus has shifted from just women and their differences to gender and what it means to be male or female in a specific society.
...
"And the focus on gender allows us to also shift to issues that affect men, while continuing to focus on issues that affect women.
"One challenge is not to stereotype men. We see men in all societies who resist stereotypical, patriarchal models and the new models they present."
Critics claim gender studies is an attempt to take over the feminist agenda with studies on masculinity.'

'Bosses at Heerema Hartlepool have cited reasons such as needing to find more spaces because of its growing workforce and trying to bring an end to an ongoing row which alleges that bays had been set up specifically for women.
Company officials spoke to the Mail after an irate worker at the site in Greenland Road sent a photograph to the Mail which had been posted in one of the parking areas and which claimed it was a women's only parking area.
The worker, who did not wish to be named, said it was gender discrimination and added: "The battle over women's parking has been an ongoing thing for over a year when Heerema put up signs stating that a certain area of the car park was reserved.'

Hofstra students told CBS 2 HD on Thursday night the case makes them angry.
"Her false accusations hurt a lot of people. Yes, it hurt the gentlemen who spent time it jail. It hurt the university. It hurt the university's reputation and it hurt Nassau County financially," student Zach Parker said.
"I think full charges should be pressed against her because that's just not right," Robert Koulakjian said.'

'San Diego Charger's stud linebacker Shawne Merriman was arrested on September 6 for allegedly choking his girlfriend Tila Tequila Nguyen at his home and holding her against her will. Both charges were felonies under California law as according to San Diego County Sheriff's Lieutenant Gary Steadman, Tequila signed an arrest warrant against Merriman. Merriman was released from jail that morning shortly after 11 a.m. According to authorities, Tequila Nguyen did not appear to be hurt, but because she signed a formal complaint the police had no choice but to take Merriman into custody. Merriman contended he was trying to assist an imbibed Tequila Nguyen, to prevent her from driving; while facilitating her desire to get home safely. Clearly, this was a high profile case of he said, she said.'

'It began Friday night with phone calls to police about a woman running on a downtown Keene street in only a shirt and underwear, saying she had been raped.
After she changed her story, it ended Saturday afternoon in assault charges against her boyfriend and an investigation against the woman for a false report, police said.
At the hospital, Wheeler retracted the claim, and instead said that Michelewicz had pushed her to the ground during an argument, Maxfield said.
Michelewicz, who co-hosts the Cheshire TV libertarian-centric show Free Minds TV was arrested at the couple’s home at 8 Town St., on Saturday afternoon and charged with simple assault.
He was later released on $1,000 personal recognizance until his arraignment on Oct. 5, and ordered not to contact Wheeler or go within 100 yards of her, Maxfield said.'

'According to reports, the crime of "bearing false witness" is rarely tracked or punished, and the context in which it is usually raised is highly politicized.
Now, a new pattern of making big bucks for these false accusers is emerging through back door deals ranging from personal appearances on shows like Oprah, book deals and cash donations from sympathetic and concerned citizens across the country.
Most recently, in fact, this month, a new case evolved where a young coed accused five men of gang raping her in a dorm bathroom. Four of the men were arrested and jailed while police searched for the fifth suspect. This all came about at Hofstra University in Mineola, NY. Hofstra was in the news earlier during the presidential race when the last debate was held there in 2008.
Just one example is the Duke lacrosse scandal where exotic stripper Crystal Mangum, accused three members of the Duke team of sexually assaulting her while she was dirty dancing at a frat party.

'YAKIMA, Wash. -- An East Valley High School teacher has pleaded not guilty to sex charges involving a student; however, a charge of sexual misconduct has been mysteriously reduced from what prosecutors initially said they had filed.
Earlier this week, deputy prosecutor Sam Chen said he didn't know why the charges filed in Yakima County Superior Court were actually for second-degree sexual misconduct -- a gross misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in prison.
In a phone message Monday, Chen blamed any perceived "double standard" on overblown media coverage.
"The difference is in the media, which seems to portray the sexual misconduct with female teachers as opposed to male teachers more," he said.
"It goes beyond sex cases. The criminal justice system, in my perception, is far more lenient to women accused of serious crimes than they are to men," Trejo said.

Video here. The DA goes on with the usual "this is a rare case of false accusation" and how we can't let this get in the way of going after accused rapists, etc., etc. She also mentions toward the end how the accused should also be treated fairly. Yeah, right.

'“What is in the interest of the child?” is the question that must be asked in all situations in which legal decisions have to be made about the welfare of children.
But the answer is indeterminate and indeterminable.
While sounding noble, in practice this concept is nothing more than a blank screen upon which decision makers, mental health professionals, welfare workers, lawyers, religious leaders and politicians are invited to project their own beliefs and values.
A decision or belief in one context about what is in the best interests of a child would differ from person to person, place-to-place, culture to culture and generation to generation.
What was considered to be in the best interest of a child in Victorian times is very different from what is considered in the best interest of a child today.'

'The Council of Graduate Schools just released data on graduate schools... Women represented 58.9% of all graduate students in 2008, meaning that there were 143 women enrolled in graduate school for every 100 men. Further, women were overrepresented in 7 out the 10 fields of graduate study and underrepresented in three fields (business, engineering and physical sciences).
Q: Why does the under representation of women in engineering, math and science get so much more attention than the under representation of men in arts and humanities, biology, education, health sciences, public administration, and social sciences? After all, male graduate students are about as underrepresented in fields like health sciences (20.1% male, and 398 women per 100 men), education (24.8% male) and public administration (25.5% male) as women are underrepresented in engineering (22% female).'

OTTAWA — Carleton University suspended its women’s soccer team on Friday after a rookie initiation party ended with a player being taken to the hospital by ambulance following excessive drinking.
It is believed that a team party last Sunday saw one player so incoherent from alcohol that an ambulance took her to the hospital.
The team will not participate in weekend games against the University of Toronto and Ryerson University and Carleton’s athletic department will meet with individual players on Monday to decide if the suspension should be extended.
Jennifer Brenning, Carleton’s Director of Recreation and Athletics, refused to discuss specifics, but said the entire team seriously breached the code of conduct set out by the athletic department and the university.
