'The woman who wrongfully accused five men of a gang rape in a dormitory bathroom of Hofstra University will not face jail time, under an agreement with the Nassau County DA.
The woman behind the false allegations, Hofstra freshman Danmell Ndonye, will have to complete "substantial mental health treatment and lengthy community service requirements" or else face criminal charges, Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice said in a statement.
The 18-year-old, previously described by the prosecutor as "a deeply troubled woman," had claimed she was attacked following a dance party at a Long Island campus nightclub. Four men were arrested and a fifth was being sought when she recanted the story three days later.'

'I received the following email from a heartbroken and understandably enraged wife whose husband languishes in America's version of a debtor's prison. No one knows how many people -- almost all of them men -- are being held indefinitely on contempt of civil court charges for which they do not have the due process protections offered to those accused of a criminal offense -- no right to a trial, an attorney, an appeal...no due process. Most of these imprisonments are for non-compliance with court ordered child support or alimony. It does not matter if the man is unable to comply due to poverty -- e.g. from losing his job; he can be imprisoned anyway until he "pays up." For an analysis of the plight of these prisoners who languish in jail without ever being arrested, tried or accorded Constitutional rights, please see my article "The Return of Debtor's Prison."'

'During his closing remarks at the International Freedom Award ceremony in the Peabody Grand Ballroom today, His Holiness the Dalai Lama called upon women to help create a more compassionate world.
“I call myself a feminist,” said the Dalai Lama. “Isn’t that what you call someone who fights for women’s rights?”
The audience erupted in laughter and applause. The Dalai Lama went to on say that women are more prone to compassion, since they have the responsibility of bearing children.'

From IA's recent email alert:
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) doesn't seem to get it.
When our work to prevent the CDC from recommending circumcision for baby boys started making waves in the press last month, the CDC responded with a statement that tried to address our issues.
But their response didn't even mention the ethics of circumcising baby boys who cannot give their consent. It's clear that they're still missing the point.
Send a message directly to the CDC – tell them they must answer our ethical questions about circumcision.

Trudy Schuett mentions NCFM's work in her fantastic article in the Examiner about how Amanda McCormick of Praxis International apparently made a position statement on behalf of Praxis when she said she knows "a lot of men who deserve to be beaten" during her keynote address at the annual conference of the Washington State Coalition Against Domestic Violence. Thank you, Trudy!

'Mothers are more likely than fathers to neglect and emotionally and physically abuse their children, information obtained under freedom of information laws reveals.
But figures from the WA Department for Child Protection show substantiated cases of child sexual abuse against fathers still far outnumber those against mothers.
The data shows that parents were the perpetrators in almost 39 per cent of the 1505 substantiated cases of child abuse in 2007-08. Of the 582 cases of abuse by parents, mothers were responsible for 73 per cent, while fathers committed 27 per cent.
Mothers were more than 17 times more likely than fathers to neglect their children, while fathers were responsible for 85 per cent of sex abuse cases against children.
...
dults Surviving Child Abuse WA spokeswoman Michelle Stubbs said an initial look at the data did not present a clear explanation and other factors had to be considered.

Check this out. These guys are doing an incredible work in the area of men's health! Excerpt:
'The MHF is fifteen years old this year. A spotty teenager, slouching and taciturn save for the odd indecipherable grunt? The Forum's first short history is being written and talking to the author the other day got me thinking about how much has changed.
When we were a toddler, the Forum used to make the news. In fact, our president Ian Banks was quoted so often in the press that other organisations assumed we had an army of press officers when in fact we had barely any paid staff. Screaming kids get noticed.
We punched well above our weight because, oddly enough, health is traditionally one of the few subjects in the media that is female-led. But in the 90s, smarter journalists and editors looking for a new angle realised that their health coverage was neglecting 50% of the population. Suddenly, men were the new women. We even got our own magazines – GQ, Maxim, Men’s Health.'

'Proponents of the New Perspectives approach to domestic violence have long been aware of the sexist, and otherwise biased nature of what has become the "traditional" public response to domestic violence. To the detriment of the public in general, governments at all levels, from federal to local, have been forced to cooperate with political activist groups whose ultimate objectives have little or nothing to do with aiding couples and families where intimate parter abuse is a problem.
Utilizing a fabricated scenario that only addresses the perceived political nature of the issue from a radical feminist standpoint, these political activist groups have managed in the past several decades to establish themselves as "experts" in the field, when nothing could be further from the truth. Time and again, the feminist scenario of domestic violence fails to stand up to scrutiny, since there was never any substance behind the notion that all domestic violence is politically motivated and a political/governmental solution is by any means viable.'

'The parents of a six-week-old boy who bled to death after a circumcision at Rosebud's Indian Health Service Hospital last year are suing the government for wrongful death.
According to documents filed Wednesday in federal court, Eric Keefe underwent a circumcision on June 13, 2008. His mother gave him Motrin and Tylenol for pain and he suffered massive blood loss at home that night, dying back at the hospital the next morning.
...
The Keefes are seeking $2 million for personal injury and wrongful death.
Sturgis lawyer Mick Strain, who represents the plaintiffs, said he and the parents wouldn't talk about the case until it is tried or settled. The file lists no lawyer for the government.'

Rekha Kumari-Baker, 41, stabbed 16-year-old Davina 37 times and 13-year-old Jasmine 29 times at their home in Stretham, Cambridgeshire.
Her ex-husband said the killings were "an act of calculated viciousness".

'I am writing to comment on the online article by Lenore Walker, EdD entitled “Battered Woman Syndrome: Key Elements of a Diagnosis and Treatment Plan.” In my view, Dr Walker’s report contains several inaccuracies and distortions—such as the notion that our society trains men to dominate and control women (“It is understood that domestic violence is part of gender violence. . . ”) Dr Walker provides no credible evidence for this claim.
...
It is worth mentioning that there is very little evidence that a battered women syndrome is any different from a battered men syndrome or from a battered child syndrome. Should we not be referring to a battered patients syndrome? Also worth noting that rates of domestic or intimate partner violence are among the highest in lesbian couples.'
