SFGate Editorial: CDC should recommend routine circumcision

Article here. Excerpt:

'The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are weighing a proposal to recommend routine circumcision for all baby boys born in the United States to curb the spread of HIV and other infections. The CDC should ignore the cries of outrage from so-called "intactivists" and recommend the procedure. The evidence shows that the benefits of circumcision outweigh the risks.
...
Well, the problem centers on the hysterical intactivists, who believe that: A. circumcision is "mutilation"; and that B. baby boys should be able to "decide for themselves," as though families have no right to make decisions about their children's health, treatment and culture. (Not to mention the health and safety of the larger society.)

The CDC should recommend routine circumcision.'

Sweden: 'Taxpayers should not have to fund feminist porn'

Article here. Excerpt:

'Engberg has also tried to make feminist porn before, which has resulted in a lesbian porn film and a film of women's' facial expressions at the point of orgasm. Her vision is to get make the porn industry more appealing to women, all in the name of feminism. She also claims that women's sexuality is more multi-faceted than men's.

But to argue that girls having sex with girls and women masturbating is somehow a good alternative to mainstream porn feels like a completely alien concept to me, and to many other women. Furthermore, most people would agree that the state should not fund pornography. And when it does, should it really only benefit women, all in the name of equality? If a man had sought and received similar funding for ‘regular’ porn, it wouldn’t have taken long before there was an outcry from supporters of equality between the sexes.

India: Court orders trial of woman, daughter for false rape case

Story here. Excerpt:

'A Delhi court today ordered criminal prosecution of a woman and her minor daughter, taking strong exception to their acts of implicating a man with rape charge and then retracting from their statements.

Additional Sessions Judge Nivedita Anil Sharma acquitted Sunil of the charge of rape under Section 376 and molestion under Section 354 of the IPC, finding no evidence against him.

The court said those who file false cases should not be spared as they abuse the process of law and waste the time of courts and the police machinery.

"Such type of litigants who without any justified reason drag the matter for several years or file false cases/FIRs should not be pardoned as it has not only caused unnecessary harrassment to the accused but also caused wastage of the time of the police," the court said, adding they also undermined the authority of law.'

FOX: 8 Sex Myths About Women

Article here. Excerpt:

'Here are just some of the notions that still need debunking:

1. She always needs to have an emotional connection for sex.

Some can have emotionless sex. Some are able to give themselves permission to indulge in nothing but raw, carnal action.

More women likely would if it weren’t for cultural prohibitions that still exist around women enjoying themselves sexually. Even more would have sex for sex’s sake if they didn’t worry about being called whores or sluts.

UK: Men lose their minds speaking to pretty women

Article here. Excerpt:

'The research shows men who spend even a few minutes in the company of an attractive woman perform less well in tests designed to measure brain function than those who chat to someone they do not find attractive.

Researchers who carried out the study, published in the Journal of Experimental and Social Psychology, think the reason may be that men use up so much of their brain function or 'cognitive resources' trying to impress beautiful women, they have little left for other tasks.

The findings have implications for the performance of men who flirt with women in the workplace, or even exam results in mixed-sex schools.

Italy's end to employment discrimination has women crying foul

Article here. Excerpt:

'Milan, Italy – Labor laws should not make any distinction based on gender: This may seem obvious in most democracies. Yet a public outcry arose when the Italian parliament recently ratified a new law ending discrimination in the retirement age between men and women – much of it from women's rights groups and labor unions.

Until now, female employees could retire at 60, five years earlier than their male counterparts – a double standard based on the consideration that women also take care of the housework and family. The European Commission found the rule illegal last year, and the government acted to bring Italy into compliance.

But not all women are happy about the change – underscoring how traditional ideas about gender roles have held surprisingly firm in Italy, both in raising children and looking after ailing parents.'
