'However, a few months ago, a came across a whole new way of “undressing” feminism, that I hadn’t seen before. This new kind of criticism towards feminism came from Swedish researcher Helen Lindberg, who earlier this year presented her doctoral thesis called Only Women Bleed?: A Critical Reassessment of Comprehensive Feminist Social Theory.
In her thesis she has evaluated four different feminist theories, with regard to internal coherence, and their usefulness as theories in a research context.
...
The short version of what she’s saying is that using feminist theory as the basis for conducting research, is about as useful as using Marxist theory to conduct research. She also nullifies the standard feminist reply to criticism (”what branch of feminism are you criticizing?”) by demonstrating that each of the four branches of feminist theory examined have the same theoretical weaknesses.

'A 44-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of a felony weapons violation in Ventura on Sunday after she allegedly pulled a large handgun on a man during an argument, police said.
Michelle Hodgin of Ventura was arrested about 4:40 p.m. in the 1500 block of Spinnaker Drive after officers responding to a report of the incident found a loaded .357 Magnum revolver in her purse, Ventura police said in a prepared statement.
Several witnesses shopping near the Ventura Marina told authorities they had seen Hodgin display the gun in a hostile manner during a verbal argument with a man, police said.
Hodgin was booked into county jail on suspicion of carrying a concealed firearm. She remained in custody Monday in lieu of $50,000 bail.'
$50k? Maybe women are starting to be treated a little more 'equitably' for their crimes. Then again, this could be just an isolated instance of fairness.

Story here. It seems the authorities are determined to nail this guy even after three decades have passed - and even though the purported victim has effectively said, "enough".
Excerpts:
'"It is [my] opinion as the victim of this crime that the 42 days he has already served is excessive."'
'Geimer, who in recent years has been an outspoken proponent of dropping the charges against Polanski, has acknowledged reaching a civil settlement with him.'
'Geimer was 13 in 1977 when she told police that Polanski had raped and sodomized her during a photo shoot at actor Jack Nicholson's Mulholland Drive home.'

'SEATTLE - One man was shot and a woman taken into custody in what appears to be a case of domestic violence late Thursday night.
The incident began at about 10:30 p.m. at a home in the 800 block of SW 117th Street in the city's White Center neighborhood.
According to the police, the man and woman were apparently arguing when the woman pulled out a gun and shot the man. The relationship of the couple is still unknown.
The woman remained in the home for about 3 and a half hours before police went in and arrested her.
The man was taken to Harborview Medical Center with what are called non-life threatening wounds.'

'Jude Ruddock-Atcherley, from Hampshire County Council, said more men were coming forward as victims of domestic violence.
"I think a lot of men don't come forward because of the stigma attached to being a victim who is male who may be thought of as being able to protect themselves," she said.
"The more people that we are aware of, the more priority there will be attached to providing funding and services for men specifically."
...
National statistics show that one in six men and one in four women will become a victim of domestic violence in their life.'

'It is still difficult to take in: that the catalogue of sexual abuse of very young children revealed in this week's paedophile court case was carried out by a 39-year-old female classroom assistant, at a nursery called Little Ted's.
In a sordid three-way exchange, Vanessa George swapped pictures of children in her care with another woman and a convicted sex offender businessman.
The fact that two of these paedophiles were female - and also mothers - is sickening enough without the fact that the victims had been entrusted into this sick woman's care by parents who were unaware of her true nature.
But what was even more upsetting about this case is that it subsequently emerged that 20 per cent of all sexual offences against children are now committed by women.'

'CINCINNATI -- A woman who was fired from a previous teaching job for having sex with a student and who pleaded guilty last month to a sex crime with a minor is now employed at an all-boys Christian school.
She pleaded guilty last month in a plea deal to unlawful sexual conduct with a minor. She initially was charged with sexual battery, a felony that would have required her to register as a sex offender and could have sent her to prison. But because her victim refused to cooperate with authorities, prosecutors allowed a plea deal to a misdemeanor that, the judge indicated last month, likely will allow her to escape time behind bars and get probation.'

'Victoria Salter, of Lostock Hall, told police in September last year she was raped by three men while one looked on.
This led to the arrest of three 17-year-olds but one of them had filmed the incident which proved the sex was consensual, the court heard.
Salter, 26, who earlier admitted perverting the course of justice was jailed at Preston Crown Court.
Salter, of Broad Meadow, dialled 999 to make the false report in September 2008.
She said she had been followed home by four men and was raped by three of them while the fourth watched.
But the court heard that Salter had been filmed on a mobile phone during the sexual encounter and had been partaking "enthusiastically".'

"First of all, the Men's Rights Movement made it on the title of one of the biggest magazines (named Focus) in Germany.
"Very well done article that features DV, education, feminism etc., about 8-10 pages. Also talking about media, male DV victims were recently on TV.
"Secondly, parts of the German Men's Rights Movement (MRM) were able to shoot down a sexist TV series. Surprise.

Stories here and here. This story broke today on the front page of the Sacramento Bee. The University of California at Davis is located within 20 minutes of Sacramento, California. Jennifer Beeman, the director of anti-violence efforts on the university campus, was put on administrative leave in December 2008 only to retire in June 2009 after 16 years at the university. The Sacramento Bee has investigated Beeman before for inflating rape statistics. Excerpt:
'Past problems with misreported campus sex crimes statistics, through both understatement and exaggeration, re-emerged Thursday at the University of California, Davis.
Officials alleged that the former head of campus anti-violence efforts, Jennifer Beeman, had grossly inflated the number of forcible sexual offenses in three years of mandatory reports to the federal government.
...
In an investigative series published in 2000, The Bee found the university had consistently under-reported sexual assaults to the federal government.

'In her book, Brownmiller said that only 2 percent of rape allegations are false, citing findings by the female police in a New York City rape squad. The problem is that while this statistic has been widely repeated, with dutiful mentions of New York-based "research," no one has ever tracked down its source. This we learned from a comprehensive review of the literature on false rape charges published in the Cambridge Law Journal in 2006. The author, Philip Rumney, finds a couple of small studies that back up the 2 percent claim but isn't confident of their methodology.

'The party also signaled an opening day of sorts, as during the month of October the calendar will host the 22nd annual Domestic Violence Awareness Month....
In other words, it will be another 31 days of fundraising, fanaticism and fraudulence; another month in which America and the western world is misinformed on an epic scale, all in the name of perpetuating the myth that the ill effects of domestic violence is a “girls only” club and that draconian legislation is the only answer.
...
The facts around domestic violence point to the unavoidable conclusion that VAWA is legislation rooted not only in sexism, but in an ill-conceived agenda that severs men from rights and recourse with the crushing legal efficacy of Dred Scott.
...
One might be pressed to wonder why, with 835,000 men a year being victimized by violent partners, would Joe Biden conjure up a mammoth piece of legislation that outright denies that reality?...

'The term "genital mutilation" sounds far less civilised that the commonly used term "circumcision". Yet the former is only ever used in relation to the removal of parts of female reproductive organs, and the latter, generally, for the removal of the foreskin from a male's penis. Make no mistake, a circumcision is the mutilation of genitals regardless of the terminology.
