Lawyer on Runaway Ohio Mom: No Charges, Will Pay Thousands

Story here. Excerpt:

'The Ohio mother who set off a nationwide manhunt when she ran away with another man earlier this month will face no charges in Ohio, but she and the man will pay thousands in restitution to the county, an attorney for the woman told ABC News today.

"My clients have agreed to make full restitution for the investigation in whatever amount the prosecutor deemed appropriate," Jon Paul Rion, attorney for former missing mother Tiffany Tehan and boyfriend Tre Hutcherson, told ABC News today. "I think that they've always wanted to make this county as whole as possible."

While Rion would not disclose the exact amount that was settled on, he said it is greater than $5,000.

Scientists develop spray to make men more affectionate using 'cuddle' hormone oxytocin

Article here. Excerpt:

"Scientists have finally worked out what women really want.

They have created a spray that makes men more caring, affectionate and in tune with others' feelings.

Just a puff or two and even the most macho of males is as sensitive as a woman, they claim.

The spray is based on oxytocin - a hormone naturally made in the body and involved in sex, sexual attraction, trust and confidence.

It is released into the blood during labour - triggering the production of breast milk - and floods the brain during breastfeeding, helping mother and baby bond.

In spray form, it seems that the so-called 'cuddle chemical' can make a man feel like a woman.'

Duke’s sexist sexual misconduct policy

Article here. Excerpt:

'FOUR YEARS ago, Duke University became the center of a national controversy about sexual assault, wrongful accusations, and campus politics when four lacrosse players were falsely accused of raping an exotic dancer at a party. Now, Duke is back in the news with a campus policy that ostensibly seeks to prevent sexual assault — but, in fact, infantilizes women, redefines much consensual sex as potentially criminal, and does a grave disservice to both sexes.

But the policy’s far-reaching definition of sex without “affirmative consent’’ covers much more. Unlike the notorious Antioch College rules of the 1990s that required verbal consent to every new level of intimacy, Duke’s policy recognizes non-verbal expressions of consent. However, it stresses that “consent may not be inferred from silence [or] passivity’’ — even in an ongoing sexual relationship.

Children's Rights Group Agrees with New Study: Infant Circumcision Causes 100 Deaths Each Year in US

Article here. Excerpt:

'West Lafayette, IN (PRWEB) April 28, 2010 -- The International Coalition for Genital Integrity (ICGI) acknowledges a critical, important, new study, published Monday in Thymos: Journal of Boyhood Studies, and believes it accurately estimates that more than 100 baby boys die from circumcision complications each year.

ICGI applauds that, for the first time, a rational attempt has been made to estimate the scale of the problem, and is simultaneously appalled by how many baby boys needlessly die each year in the United States.

The study concluded: “These boys died because physicians have been either complicit or duplicitous, and because parents ignorantly said ‘Yes,’ or lacked the courage to say ‘No.’” And called the deaths “an unrecognized sacrifice of innocents.”

Canada: Girls can join boys teams, boys can't join girls teams

Article here. Excerpt:

'With few exceptions, girls who have wanted to play high school sports in Ontario over the years have had to do so on girls' teams, if one was available.

No more.

As of last week, girls now have carte blanche to play on boys' teams if they can make it. Even when a girls' team is available.

The decision stems from the case of a Waterloo high school student who filed a human rights complaint recently after her demand to play on the boys' soccer team was denied. As the process rolled on, Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations lawyers decided they were going to lose the fight, so the organization relented before legal precedent was set. A negotiated settlement allowed it to write its own policy rather than being force-fed the wording.
...
OFSAA's executive director Doug Gellatly says the new policy -- which he was against -- raises a number of issues.

Start with the obvious question before it's even asked: No, Gellatly says, if a girl takes a boys' spot on a team, a boy can't try out for a girls' squad in return.

India: Gender Neutral Laws in four years

Story here. Excerpt:

'BANGALORE: The government will be working towards making laws gender neutral in the next four years, Union minister of law and justice M Veerappa Moily said on Sunday.

He also said after legislating the Right to Education Act the government will soon come up with a Food Security Act.

“We have already passed the Right to Education Act and Food Security Act is coming shortly,” Moily said while inaugurating a three-day 'Civil Society Summit: The state of the Indian Republic @ 60', here. Observing that a number of laws were gender-biased, he said “they (laws) should become gender neutral and I assure you in the next four years this will be done.” '

This has been a demand from Indian MRAs and Indian feminists are upset. Yesterday, I was talking to a feminist legal scholar from the local Law College. She claims that DV laws in many US states are still gender-specific. As far as I know, California was the only state with gender-specific DV laws, and that was before `Woods v Shewry'.

Larger numbers of men seek breast reduction surgery

The sick bodies of men are expendable, are irrelevant, are ignored. The fact that these male bodies are increasingly looking like female bodies should be setting off big-time alarms with the powers that be, such as the Environmental Protection Agency. But no, it is men who are disproportionately being affected, so these powers that be just ignore it. How short sighted... our misandrist chemical-laden industrialized society is on its way to wiping out the human race (and many other species in the process).

An extract of this story is provided below, found at http://www.nurseforhealth.com/brittanys-notes/2008/7/11/time-line-of-destruction.html

'Surgical clinics surveyed by The Sunday Times in Britain report a sharp upsurge in the numbers of men seeking breast reduction surgery. Hormones in the water are blamed for a doubling of cases in just a year of gynecomastia, a hormonal-induced growth in men's breasts.

The Innocence Project gets another innocent man freed

Story here. Excerpt:

'For nearly two decades prosecutors and judges have maintained that Frank Sterling — and not Mark Christie — murdered a 74-year-old woman as she walked along an abandoned railway bed in Hilton.

Today, a judge freed Sterling after prosecutors and defense lawyers revealed that Christie has now admitted to the Nov. 29, 1988, murder of Viola Manville.

“Our justice system’s goal is to assure that only the guilty are convicted,” state Supreme Court Justice Thomas Van Strydonck said this afternoon when agreeing to reverse Sterling’s 1992 conviction for the Manville murder. “This case and others demonstrate that ours remains an imperfect system.”

While not stating definitively in court that Sterling is innocent, District Attorney Michael Green said admissions from Christie coupled with genetic evidence from the homicide convinced him that Sterling should go free. The investigation has now been reopened.

Christie is now imprisoned for the 1994 strangulation of Kali Ann Poulton.

Man Robbed By Drink-Drugging Women Speaks Out

Story here. Excerpt:

'A North Miami Beach man who police believe may have been a victim of the drug 'em and rob 'em female thieves doesn't want what happened to him to happen to anyone else.

"No matter how wide open your eyes are, open them wider," said the unidentified 45-year-old man Thursday. "[I felt] definitely violated and vulnerable."

The man, who wants his identity hidden, said he was the victim of a couple of smooth female crooks who lure men in with a drink, drug them and rob them blind.

It was November 2009 when the victim met the woman and a friend at Set Night Club in South Beach. They danced, they dined and they drank.
...
In all, six designer watches were missing, along with about $26,000 in cash.

The victim thought it might be an isolated incident until reports surfaced this week of a string of similar robberies happening throughout South Florida.

Grown Up Mean Girls: Mom on Mom Cyberbullying

Story here. Excerpt:

'Motherhood is supposed to be like apple pie and a warm hug. Wholesome. Dependable.

But online, it can be anything but. Right next to support groups on diaper rash and the terrible twosare mean girls, all grown up.

It's mom on mom cyberbullying and as the popularity of mommy blogging rises, so do the often stinging criticisms.

A mom who asks about baby bottles is called "a cop out" and "uneducated" for not breastfeeding. Working moms are "selfish" and co-sleeping moms are labeled "irresponsible" online.

"There's a lot of insecurity, a lot of confusion, resentment, just about being a mother," psychiatrist and mommy blogger Janet Taylor told "Good Morning America." "There's a sense of 'I have to be better than you and I'm going to prove it by writing negative things.' Not supporting, just writing negative things."'

Home violence a men's issue, speaker argues

Article here. Excerpt:

'Domestic and sexual violence is a men's issue, not a women's issue, said a U.S. educator, author and filmmaker in Victoria last week as part of Prevention of Violence Against Women Week.

"Men, and masculinity itself, have been rendered invisible in conversations about domestic and sexual violence," said Jackson Katz [link added], co-founder of Mentors in Violence Prevention program, a widely used domestic- and sexual-violence prevention program in U.S. colleges and professional athletics.

Issues such as sex assault, domestic violence, sexual harassment and sexual abuse of children have historically been regarded as women's issues "that some good men help out with," he told a conference hosted by the Ending Violence Association of B.C. at the Fairmont Empress hotel.
