'From The Left
MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough claimed on Friday’s Morning Joe that Democratic claims around toxic masculinity pushed male voters to Donald Trump. Some of the analysis around the president-elect’s victory this week has focused on how Trump benefited from his improved performance with traditionally Democrat-supporting groups including Black and Latino men. Exit showed Trump picking up 47 percent of Latino men and his standing with young Black men compared with four years ago. “There’s been an awful lot of talk about people who have traditionally voted for Democrats, Black men, Hispanic men.'

'In the months leading up to election day, pollsters were fixated on one demographic: young men. This group, often elusive in political data, was showing signs of a notable swing toward Donald Trump and away from the progressive viewpoints of young women.
Traditionally a policy wonk, Richard Reeves became an unlikely media mainstay this election cycle, sought after by those trying to decode the concerns and motivations of these gen Z male voters. Reeves is president of the American Institute for Boys and Men, which he started in 2023 to create research-based approaches to bettering the education, mental health, and work and family life of men. Many of the institute’s policy proposals were outlined in Reeves’s 2022 book Of Boys and Men: Why the Modern Male Is Struggling, Why It Matters, and What to Do About It.'

'Matt feared his wife was going to kill him. He had seen violent streaks before. Once, when he accused her of infidelities, Matt said she pulled a knife and “put it (at) my throat.”
Fleeing wasn’t an option because they had young children. He felt stuck without a safe refuge where he could take them. “As long as I had my kids, that’s all I cared about,” Matt said.
He expected the police wouldn’t take him seriously: a six-foot-tall Caribbean man scared of his wife. “If anything happens and she calls the cops, they’re going to come straight at me,” he told the National Post, requesting anonymity to protect his children.'

'November 7, 2024 – Men have long been a decisive force in presidential contests (1). Exit polls from Tuesday’s election showed race, ethnicity, and marital status were particularly important factors (2):
- Race: 60% of White males voted for Trump, compared to only 37% supporting Harris.
- Ethnicity: Hispanic men favored Trump over Harris, by a 55% to 43% margin.
- Marital Status: Among married men, 60% supported Trump and 38% favored Harris.
Contributing to these numbers were five major missteps by the Harris campaign:

'The freakout on the left continued Thursday with New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez blaming sexism for Kamala Harris’ presidential election loss — as she warned it will be a “scary” time in America under “the fascist” Donald Trump.
“This is going to be a very, very, very, challenging difficult time … for millions of people in this country. This is going to be a very scary time,” AOC said in an extended, funereal Instagram video from the kitchen of her home.
“I’m not here to sugarcoat what we are about to experience.”'

'Germany's government has given the green light to a draft law that paves the way for the return of national service.
The legislation will allow Berlin to gauge the willingness of the country's 18-year-olds to serve in Germany's army, the Bundeswehr.
...
Under the model proposed by the German government, all men turning 18 – which is estimated to be about 300,000 in 2025 – will have to fill out a digital survey on their interest in joining the army.
Young women will also be sent the survey but are not obliged to fill out the form.'

Mr Trump swept to victory in Tuesday’s presidential race that Democrats cast as a referendum on abortion rights and protections for women.
Some women are now threatening to punish men for voting for Trump, taking inspiration from a Korean feminist movement that vows to withhold sex from men in order to redefine the gender power balance.'

'A woman who abducted and sexually assaulted a 14-year-old girl has been jailed for breaching a court order.
Phoebe Pearce, 25, from Newport, groomed the schoolgirl, who was aged 14 at the time, after meeting her through Facebook two years ago.
She was warned off by the teenager's mum but Pearce lured the girl away from her home to have sexual activity with her while she was on police bail.
A court heard Pearce texted a friend saying the girl was "youngish but I don't care".
In September 2022, Pearce admitted grooming, abduction and sexual activity with a child at a Cardiff Crown Court hearing.
Judge Jeremy Jenkins said the relationship "quickly turned into a sexual one".'

“If we don’t agree with you, we’re against you?” the exasperated Smith asked. “How do you think the men felt about that? So we have to do what you tell us to do; otherwise, we’re anti-you? You thought that worked? Do y’all know anything about most men? You think that’s going to work?”'

'Jed Handelsman Shugerman, a prominent law professor at Boston University, argued Wednesday that the reason Donald Trump won and Kamala Harris lost the 2024 presidential race is due to “toxic masculinity” and “white supremacy.”
“Anyone blaming Harris or Walz today has utterly lost the plot & missed the point. This is fundamentally about America, toxic masculinity, & white supremacy. Blaming Harris would be part of that problem, not the solution,” the professor posted on X early Wednesday morning. “She deserves our thanks. Thank you, @vp @KamalaHarris.”
In a follow-up post, he argued Harris “ran a solid, energetic, inspiring, strategic, & disciplined campaign in less time than anyone in modern US history. You made us proud to be on the right side of history and the humane side of humanity.”'

'Anne-Marie Duff has discussed her experience of raising a son, and said she does not like the term “toxic masculinity”.
The Bad Sisters actor, 54, parents a teenage son, Brendan, with her ex-husband James McAvoy, who she met on the set of the British comedy-drama Shameless.
Speaking about bringing up a boy and the discourse around young men, she told The Observer Magazine: “I think the rhetoric around it is frustrating sometimes. Like, I don’t love the expression ‘toxic masculinity’, because masculinity is a describing noun, isn’t it? Is all masculinity toxic? It’s like saying, ‘pathetic femininity’.”
She added: “My worry is that there are a lot of young boys who think it’s innate.”
Duff then pointed to “a very sad story” a friend had recently told her about a 13-year-old boy they knew who was having counselling because he thought there was an inevitability about him becoming a rapist.
“We have to be so careful with our young people,” she said.'
