More Feminist Bias at the BBC
posted by Matt on 10:23 AM May 12th, 2005
The Media AngryMan writes "This article from the BBC covers a new report into international forced labour. I'm sure we're all opposed to slavery of every kind, but the article concentrates solely on prostitution. If you download the report (PDF on the right), turn to page 12 and look at the pie chart, the report identifies 3 categories of forced labour: economic, military and sexual. Of these 3, sexual is the least significant. It's interesting that most forced workers and soldiers are male, but these get ignored. The BBC concentrates solely on women. The article turns this report into another attack on male sexuality. The implication is that all prostitutes are slaves. Thanks once again BBC."

Feminist oppose prostitution is because it allows men to obtain sex whenever they want and, therefore, it is disempowering to women. It certainly is not based on concern for women involved in that trade.

I've dealt with feminist activists in the 90's that told us that unless we toed their party line, men wouldn't get any sex. They miscalculated.

Why would a man with any integrity agree to such evil and manipulative behavior? Prostition and porn screws up the femifascist's would-be manipulation. That's why they want both prostition AND porn to go away.

The central issue is one of the main tenets of feminism: "Women matter, Men do not matter." When men suffer and die, it doesn't matter to feminists. No wonder the BBC article skipped over all the male suffering to focus on the female suffering.

The article itself was the usual trivial stuff that we get from the dumbed-down BBC, designed to titillate with tales of seedy sex and ignoring the real issues.

The comments posted on the BBC's site and the couple that have been posted here are much more interesting.

Yes, feminism is certainly the driving force behind all those crocodile tears that the Beeb sheds for these 'poor girls'. I've long since come to the conclusion that the purpose of feminism is to concentrate power in the hands of older women.

They used to do this through an institution they invented called 'patriarchy' which gave men an illusion of importance in exchange for their enslavement.

Technological changes and particularly the advent of the pill screwed things up for them. Young girls started giving sex away for free. Imagine! Some of them actually admitted they enjoyed sex.

Older women felt their power slipping away. Their daughters had let the cat out of the bag. Patriarchy didn't look so good anymore. They had to come up with another idea to control younger women and prevent a slaves revolt of the men. Hence feminism.
