Speaking of Running off to Las Vegas...

The Media It seems not just inconsiderate brides-to-be can be the only women running off to Vegas! USA Today covers the trend of women-only getaways, some including week-long hotel discounts (for women only) and no-men-allowed package deals, with trips to Chippendales-like strip clubs too!

Just imagine if this story were run with the sexes reversed, touted on the cover of a national newpaper, what the outcry would be. Better yet, replace the references to the sexes with references to ethnic groups (pick your two) and imagine the article then. The misandry is quite palpable too, though not as blatant as one of the more recent examples mentioned here on MANN.

Another thing to mention... (Score:1)

I just want to mention this as well... I have nothing vs. single-sex getaways. I agree in fact with some of the text in this article that it is rejuvenating and gives people a chance to just be themselves more without the presence of the opposite sex around (everyone with any obervational powers knows the mixed-gender groups behave differently internally and as a whole than single-sex groups, for a variety of reasons). The problem I have with this article is that it is contemptuous of men with its "once you elimnate the Y chromosome..." type of remarks and its subtle but detectable assumption that the getting-awayers are all harried unappreciated oppressed housewives seeking respite from their evil awful husband/oppressors. What a load of BS! I also want to point out that male-only events such as week-end retreats associated with the mythopoetic movement are (or rather, were, as they aren't mentioned anymore at all) treated in the mainstream press, if at all, as if such men going on them are doing something evil, or are all a bunch of "girlie-men" or, good heavens, a bunch of closet gays or something worse, like Nazis or maybe it's a bunch of chapter meetings for the Great Patriarchal Oppressor Club! Contrast this with how the whole package-deal, discounted rates, wine-chugging, stripper-watching theme is held up as a wondrous thing solely because the takers are all-female.

In a word: *barf*!

Well put- right on the mark. I also liked this part...

"Husbands have always gone off with their buddies; now there's a recognition of the importance of 'girlfriend time,' " says Marian Marbury, founder of Adventures in Good Company, another organizer of active getaways for women.

Since I've been married (15 years now), I've never gone on a vacation with my buddies and none of my other married friends have either. A night out occasionally, but not a vacation. Does anyone do this??-- and your are correct, if a man were to do this, they would likely be labeled as a queer for doing so.

If I recall the NY Times sent a female reporter to a mythopoetic retreat to cover what the men were doing. Specifically, she reported that at no time were they engaged in griping about women. Jeez. Did they think the men were planning the revolution?

Women are more likely to join health clubs that don't sell memberships to men, women prefer to stay in hotels that won't let men stay there, women are more likely to use deodorant that is made "just for them", so why should it be any surprise that women would prefer vacations that don't allow men? Women see men as beneath them. Even their boyfriends/husbands are usually servants at best, there to help pay the bills, pick up, and take care of the children while they go out with all their girlfriends. They aren't the ones the women share their innermost thoughts with or the first person they run to tell when they're pregnant. Men are not the people they want to befriend, ever see a woman try to befriend a man who she wasn't sexually interested in? So why would they want to bring men on vacation with them?
But How Does It Impact Men's Rights? (Score:2)

As far as businesses that cater to "girls only" I am at the stage of men's rights consciousness where I ask how does this affect men's rights? Some businesses by nature discriminate by gender such as men or women clothing stores. As for businesses like health spas that could serve both genders but choose to serve women only then that is a business decision by a private entity and should be allowed. However, arbitrarily eliminating 50% of a potential customer base usually is a very poor business decision. The only health club that I have ever heard about that is for women only is Living Well Lady which may or may not be in business anymore I haven't heard about them in a couple of years. Also, I haven't noticed their franchises on every other street corner nor do I really care. Women only health clubs probably are not a growth industry.

In the matter of the dorky bride to be who ran off to Las Vegas and claimed she was kidnapped isn't the guy she was going to marry lucky to find out how really stupid his intended before the wedding? This dorky female actually looks dorky if you go by her pictures in the media. She is just the proverbial accident waiting to happen. If she could come up with a horsesh*t story about being abducted then think want damage she could do to a man she is in a relationship with by making false accusations about being raped or abused by him in some other manner. In domestic abuse scenarios she stands a much higher chance in being unconditionally believed by the authorities.

The dorky broad that ran off to Las Vegas and falsely claimed she was abducted to avoid getting married still may get married.

Her intended still wants to marry her saying that we all make mistakes referring to the runaway bride. If this guy still marries this idiot then he will be making one hell of a big mistake.

It seems that some males are just dumb to the bone!

This is why they don't allowing hunting of animals during breeding season. The males are so interested in getting sex, that their natural defense mechanisms are derailed.

Sadly, in American society, women and the law exploit a man's procreative drives to the point that it has become a national sport to "bag a man," and mount his head in a trophy case full of other men entrapped by female friendly laws; female desires for babies, but not husbands. All men today are societally disrespected, and taken advantage of for the strong motivations inherent in the sex drives they develop as a result of having been born male.

...and the man-hating all begins in the ten’s of thousands of taxpayer funded, women’s studies classes infesting our colleges and universities.
