Washington Post Actually Covers Female Arsonist
posted by Matt on 06:17 PM May 1st, 2005
The Media Do my eyes deceive me? Is it real? The Washington Post actually printed this, and in a Sunday edition no less! But alas, the tone is characteristically sympathetic to the arsonist, who is (not so) coincidentally, female. Get this from the article:

Danahey reminded Brown of his only child. He could easily imagine his free-spirited son trapped in a similar situation, another victim of impulse.

"Victim of impulse"? If it had been his son, you can be sure the author would not be using language like that to describe him!

I also find it real strange that this story appears in their "Style" section.

I am sure poor, poor Janet is convinced that she is just as much a victim as the people killed in the fire she started.

If her male chauvinist pig boyfriend had not dumped her and if the patriarchal dominated North Carolina legislature had not passed that dumb law then she would not have been victimized by the impulse to strike back in the only way she could had to alleve the unbearable inner pain she suffered from the rejection.

Female victims like poor, poor Janet are always blamed for their problems and that has got to stop!
