Woman sets son on fire

Domestic Violence A Canadian woman set her 13-year-old son on fire. Amazed it even made it to press, really, given the sexes of the people involved.

I used to find really thought provoking and useful articles here for men's rights activism. But for weeks, all you seem to want to talk about are violent women. Yes, there are gender double standards. Yes, they need to be pointed out. But you guys are really overdoing it.

If you really think the press would refuse to report on a parent setting fire to a child because the parent was a woman, you've clearly lost perspective.

I totally agree.

It's only when women suffocate, drown, starve, poison, or bludgeon their kids to death that the feminist mass media seems to never notice.

And BTW, if the focus on MANN has recently shifted to include more discussion about the various forms of female violence, maybe that's a telling symptom of the too-long-disguised "epidemic" of violent women who have gotten a pass in the past.

Thanks to vigilant MRA's and the power of the Internet, the dirty little secret is out!

It occurs to me that the reason you're seeing the rise in this kind of article is not because we have any particular penchant for this kind of story, but because it's being reported more in the media (as well it should be).

I will tell you from personal experience that, of the postings I've submitted myself, most of them actually get posted to the site. Of the ones that didn't get posted, the guys who run the site tend to have a "relevance filter," and after the fact, I can see where the line has been drawn, and I regard it as reasonable.

So I would conclude, and also suggest to you, that the articles that get posted are more driven by the prevalence of articles in the media (and the likelihood of one of us to actually find them) rather than by any design driven by the administrators of the site.

You can help your own cause by posting articles of your own choice.

The point being addressed here is the double standard of press coverage of females as primary victims. More concern and more outrage for crimes committed against women re-enforces the concept of women having more intrinsic value.

I notice today that CNN prominently featured a story on their main webpage about a man setting his girlfriend and children on fire.

Fox News has dedicated over 100 shows to Laci Peterson. No such concern is displayed toward murdered or disappeared men.

Perhaps the point should be made more clearly that no one relishes stories about violent women, nor are we projecting the violent behavior of certain women onto women as a whole. It's the way in which violence toward men is reported. Often times the news media portrays violent women as victims who need couselling instead of jail. The media continues to fall in line with the feminist message that men are by nature violent and women are not, and that women should be held to a lower level of responsibility for their actions.

Actually, many MRA's do in fact "relish" (is that a synonym for 'recognizing the truth'?) the still-scant mass media coverage that leaks out about rampant female violence.

We may also plead guilty to "relishing" justice, fairness, equality under-the-law, and the demise of feminism.

Sometimes the violent behavior of a minority of men seems to get projected onto men as a whole by society.

Then do something about it. Perhaps, you could post some good stories on other men's rights related topics...?
