Texas Jury Didn't Honor The Abuse Excuse Card!
posted by Adam on 11:13 AM March 5th, 2004
False Accusations Luek writes " A Texas jury convicted a woman for the brutal murder of her husband. Her defense was based on the abuse excuse and claimed justified self-defense. She alleged he repeatedly beat her and she killed him after he raped her adding in the marital rape charge which is becoming a domestic violence popular false allegation to use against the husband. Also, she murdered him by stabbing him almost 200 times!!!"

TLE also writes "In Houston a woman was just convicted of the murder of her husband, claiming "self defense" as the justification for stabbing him 193 times while he was bound to the bed. CNN acticle here. Houston Chronicle article from last week here. How could they convict her? She's so cute!"

Both were convicted. That's something. However, the really important thing is length of sentence. Will the judges bring up a load of crap about " mitigating circumstances"? We'll have to wait and see.

Sentencing is already complete. She gets a whole 25 years, and is elegible for parole in 12 1/2 years. Seems really harsh after watching her break down in tears. Poor thing. I wonder if she'll get weekends off to visit her children? We wouldn't want to damage the family any more than it already has been.

Women getting relatively short sentences may be a good thing in the long run. If a jury feels a woman will not get a harsh sentence then they are probably more inclined to convict her.

Texas did recently(2001 I think)execute a woman who murdered her husband. So that is a point in Texas court systems favor. Texas also broke the ice against executing women when Karla Tucker was executed. And don't forget that woman who drowned all her kids and tried to get off with an insanity defense that didn't fly.

Also, I never believed that Martha Stewart would have been convicted of all counts. Even though she is so cute and feisty for a 62 year old. I think the jury makeup was 8 women and 4 men with some trace of testosterone still in their bloodstreams.
That was encouraging.

There are still some folks who claim Martha Stewart was convicted because she's a woman. I heared someone on NBC's 'DATELINE say it again, just a short time ago. Gimme a break.
How come no one is saying the guy that was convicted along with her isn't being convicted for being a man? (Rehtorical question.)

...Anyone else see, now why the whole "tie-up-the-male" scenerio bothers me so? And why it's constant image in the media conserns me?
We will see more of this, I assure you. and it will only get worse.
