Dominatrix in the dumper!

The Media Thundercloud. writes "I know I probably seem hyper-sensitve to the subject of female on male violence in "entertainment". especialy when the violence is sexualized and in a sado-masochistic manner. I recently posted an article about the movie "CATWOMAN" and it's use of a 'dominatrix' type character, and aired my concernes on the matter. But perhaps I've been a bit to hasty in my concern over the polifferation of this image. Case in point. The movie "EURO-TRIP" was released this past friday. It boasted of scenes with Lucy Lawless as, (what else?) a Dominatrix and a TEEN AGED boy in (What else?) bondage. Well, according to Yahoo news the movie BOMBED. If, when "CATWOMAN" is released the male audience again rejects this "Dominatrix-male victim" scenerio, perhaps I'll back off the subject a bit. Perhaps...,"

I really wouldn't sweat this sort of thing too much...I remember a short lived TV series that was on at the high water mark of the Dworkin/McKinnon surge called "Lady Blue" (my masculinist buds called her "Dirty Harriet") This never smiling bee with an itch packed a Smith and Wesson 44 bulldog (which in reality would have broken her wrist and knocked her on her retentive anus from the recoil) while her boss...a fat euunnuc..packed a snub nosed 32 (implying of course that he had a micropenis) while she broke up gangs of macho men who held illegal "best man"fight competitions that were a front for illegal traffic in bull semen.....have no fear...no one is fooled by this...the young guys who go to see this do so strictly to oogle the catwoman's shapely butt in those tight outfits and any attempt at promoting feminazi propaganda is so pathetic that it even makes the old guard witches grind their teeth in frustration.

I think that maybe it is a bit oversensitive to be concerned over dominatrix themes in movies. THe situation of a female dominatrix is often used as humor because of the obvious role reversal involved. However, even if this stereortype is offensive the whole dominatrix situation is a unique construct agreed upon by both parties. The man is being dominated because he wants to be and has asked for the women to behave in this manner. This is drasticly different from a rape situation. I think that reacting to every perceived slight by any movement ultimately destroy's it's credebility and blunts its effectiveness. Lets choose or complaints and fights.

Well, I might not be so ready to critisize the "dominatrix scenero" if it wasn't ALWAYS a man as the target of "domination".
As I mentioned before, I did a search on dominatrixes and the SnM lifestyle. a search I don't have the stomech to do again. Anyway what I found was that there is actually a MALE version of a dominatrix, he is called a "dominant" or a "dungeon master" or just a "master". My point being that the "entertainment" media depict ONLY dominatrixes and NEVER the male equivalent.
It is always MEN bound, gagged, beaten and/or humiliated by whip cracking women.
I also found tons and I mean TONS of websites devoted to "women in bondage" much more than those devoted to MEN in bondage. alot of them, however were girl on girl "domination" and "submissive". I guess what I'm driving at is there appearantly is a large number of men who want to play the "dominant role", just as many who want to play the "submissive role". Despite this fact, the media only focuses on ONE fragment of the SnM life style to represent. and that is, of course the one part that is P.C. and is demeaning to men. Why? because our "entertainment" industry is in the buisness of de-humanizing, degrading and humiliating men. Why? My best guess is that the "entertainment" industry is made up primarily of "Wussy-poopie" men who are submissive themselves and LOVE being humiliated by women and LOVE to see other men treated the same, and ergo, try to push this notion on other men. Secondly there is no shortage of man-hateing female writers and producers in the "entertainment" industry who LIKEWISE want to see men as subhuman, submissive, spineless, groveling Uncle Tom, mouse-boys. Who flinch any time a woman moves to scratch her nose.
I am not, in ANY way saying that the depiction of "Male dungeon masters" is the remedy to the endless flow of anti-male dominatrix types.
BOTH images can be harmful. The thing is that young boys see this depiction and don't think it doesn't affect them, because it does.
If the "entertainment" media HAS to show this sort of garbage, why doesn't it show the WHOLE picture?, is partialy what I'm asking.
Personaly I think it is ALL garbage.
Male or Female, I think the depiction of "beating down" another human being is disgusting! I don't care whether it is CONSENTUAL or not. the image is the image and images have POWER! especialy when that image is repeated constantly.

T-Cloud,

I think you have everyone here's respect as one of our best cultural and pop media critics!

I always look forward to your posts.

Your are insightful, balanced (bordering on charitable), and bang-on correct in keeping the focus on the mass media's subtle and not-so-subtle denigration of men.

Keep writing!

I agree. HOWEVER, these movies are based on the worst male fear of being abused by a woman.

No in fact he is very right. The reason why I posted that joke is because the original role model of that behaviour is none other than Count Leopold von Sacher Masoch (the namesake of the personality disorder called Masochism) Of all the crimes the feminazis are culpable of list sexual perversion first and foremost.
