Men's Health Ron J writes "We now have 53 cosponsors. Write to your congressmen and Senators and keep this momentum going. Congressman Randy "Duke" Cunningham and Senator Mike Crapo have introduced companion bills which will establish an Office of Men's Health at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. This office would mirror the work of the existing Office of Women's Health, which has helped to save thousands of women's lives and has improved the lives of many more. Write a letter to your congressmen and Representatives. Sign this online petition" The list of co-sponsors is copied below.

Perhaps you should post the link for the online petition on the message boards of Men's Health (the magazine).

Go to www.menshealth.com

There are thousands of messages posted everyday on their boards, and it concerns mainly American people, so I think it could be a real means to reaching a considerably larger audience.

I also think that posting on the message boards of www.askmen.com could be helpful.

Oh, and also the people at www.testosterone.net

By the way, what does the "Rep" before the names of the co-sponsors mean ? Could it be that only Republican congresspeople are supporting the bill ????? Where are the Democrats ?????

Sorry if I sound a bit ignorant but English isn't my native language and I don't live in an English-spoken country.

Rep. means "Representative" and not "Republican." "Representatives" are elected to the House and "Senators" are elected to the Senate.

Did you actually read the list? It includes the honorable Jim McDermott, John Conyers, and Charlie Rangel. They definitely are not Republicans!

However, the fact that these guys would support an Office of Men's Health gave me pause. Where is the wisdom in this act? Do men really need a federal bureaucracy telling them to quit smoking, drink less, eat better, exercize more, and see a doctor once a year? Isn't that pretty much all that an Office of Men's Health would do, costing, oh, something in the neighborhood of $100 million per year?

I am suggesting that maybe the goal should not be to provide men with a male version of the same fiscal sinkhole that women enjoy, but perhaps we should start eliminating some of the more bogus women's health programs.

Having said that, given a choice between women's only health programs, versus programs for men as well as women, I support the latter.

Does anybody have any thoughts on all this?
