Makers of Celexa/Lexapro Focus on Male Depression

Men's Health Anonymous User writes "I found a brochure [on depression in men] at www.lexapro.com. It is a guide for male victims of depression. This is the first time I have seen a brochure geared specifically toward men for this disease. I encourage male victims of depression to write the makers of Lexapro and thank them for this attention." While Lexapro obviously has a financial interest in marketing their product to men, they clearly state that depression "is an equal opportunity illness, affecting all ages, races, and economic groups, and both genders" and they are contributing to awareness about depression in men.

Male-depression is yet another issue that is ignored by the media. just as stress, heart disese and domestic violence are.
The media has been saying that depression is not only MORE common for women but it is WORSE for women too.
(Don't be suprised if the media starts saying that testicular cancer is worse for women, as well...)

Anyway, I'm glad to see SOMEONE takeing the issue of depression for men, siriously.

well, I won't judge anyone for writing to them for being 'equal' with regards to male depression. And I don't know about this particular company, but these pharmecuetical companies have been drugging up boys for not being 'feminine' enough at school. As if boys are supposed to be able to sit all day and obey orders from teachers to make their day easier. I just think these companies are slime, even though I'm on meds right now :). LIke the author said it is about $$$.

As a side point, I went on celexa before and it made me gain a ton of weight, although most of the weight is off now, I'm giving a warning to anyone who's going on it to keep an eye on their weight.

Agreed to a point. It is not the companies drugging the kids. It's the schools and the kids' parents. The companies ARE providing the drugs (and possibly the misinformation) though.

That does appear to be one of Celexa's negative side effects not often discussed. Lexapro, however, is specifically stated not to have that side effect.
