I have mixed feelings about supporting this. On the one hand, I certainly do recognize the need to illuminate the abuse of boys and young men, as it seems clear that such abuse spawns further abuse. On the other hand, the Doctor is very well likely to find an overwhelming number of male perpetrators. While I have no desire to hide the truth, as it were, I do believe that the number of female perpetrators may not be fully illuminated, and the last thing we need is another body of research that seems to prove the feminists claim that when it comes to sexual abuse, men are predators.
It would be nice to hear a couple of things from Dr. Hunter, like 1) he expects to find a higher than currently understood number of female perpetrators; and 2) he will frame his studies in a manner that minimizes the utility of his work to those who seek to demonize men.
I do recognize that science leads to where it leads, that the final destination cannot be predicted at the outset, and that this is work that needs to be done. I just hope that, at the outset, there is a clear path toward solving a problem, not adding to the rhetoric.

I too have some "mixed feelings" on this one.
If Dr. Hunter were to make it clear that this research would be COMPETELY un-biased, I might feel a bit better about it all.

Given that he's written about how boys are the neglected victims of abuse, I would imagine that if he has any bias, it would be in favor of men. Another indicator would be that he's soliciting information from readers of this web site.
Let's try not to be too cynical...I know it's hard not to be in this day and age.

Sorry, Scott.
You're right it IS easy to be cynical these days.
It's like the old Dog who everyone in the village always beats on.
He's so used to being beaten that even when a kind person puts out a hand to pet him, he BITES THEM out of reflex.

Sorry if you guys think I'm being cynical. That's not my intent. I guess I'm not necessarily inclined to accept the notion that, since this study is about boys, and since the author is querying in this location for help, that the study will be unbiased. After all, it could very well be one of those "for the good of the children" studies that turns out to blame men for all abuse. I'm not necessarily questioning Dr. Hunter's scientific or clinical credentials or motivations either. I just hope that, when all is said and done, the result doesn't end up being more ammunition for the feminists.
I suppose I should write to him directly, and I will.

As I said I would, I contacted Dr. Hunter to express my concerns. His reply:
"Thanks for your concern. to ease your mind I encourage you to look at Abused
Boys: The Neglected Victims Of Sexual Abuse which I wrote. It has several
stories written by men who were sexually abused by women, and The Sexually
Abused Male Volumes one & Two which I edited and has several chapters on
female offenders. Perhaps you would then put an additional post with your
reaction to this material.
Mic Hunter, Psy.D.
Licensed Psychologist
Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist"
I'm not going to have time to go read the suggested works and respond in a timely manner, so in the interest of fairness to Dr. Hunter, I post his reply here.
I read from his reply some assurance that the methods and the final report will attempt to be gender-blind, which is, after all, the best we can ask for.
