Why Johnny Won't Read

Education Neil Steyskal sent us this Washington Post article and writes "Here's a guy that has developed methods to make reading attractive to boys. With boys falling further and further behind in school, and with the percentage of male college student dropping fast, this is a program that's vitally important." Scieszka, of course, is the main impetus behind the guysread.com web site. It's good to see he's getting some attention from the media about this issue.

Feminism has left boys so far behind, blinded by unfounded vendetta against men, they have broad-sided the future's of boys.

It is up to us, to reinstate thier lives, it is up to us to guide them to morality and fruitfull endeavours. Men have shirked their places as fathers all to often thinking it was in the best interest of the child, we were wrong. Historically any primitive tribe could tell us the importance of our presence in our children's lives.
And I think if I read books like the "Colour Purple" that told me all men are bastards, I dont think I'd want to read, or grow to be a man either. It is up to us to reiterate our labours on our sons and daughters.

I want to mention that Christina Hoff Sommers is on the radio at 7pm pacific time or 10pm eastern time, you may want to double check those times . The link is set up on Men's Daily News. It has been responsible parenting like Christina's that will help our children grow.

It is all part of an elaborate feminist agenda. During the 1990's C.Gilligan (feminist scholar) created the myth that school systems shortchange girls. Her study, despite the fact that she deliberately concealed (and then lost) the empirical evidence to support her claims, became headline news across the country, and initiated a one sided campaign that was aimed at increasing the effectiveness of schooling for girls (only).

The result of this study has caused secondary school systems to become primarily concerned with the quality of education for the female gender. The infrastructure was in place (feminist educators promoted to high positions within school administrations) and Gilligan provided the victimology fuel (her bogus study) to set a campaign against masculine values as they relate to young boys across this country.

As a result, contemporary schooling is all about empowering girls, and making boys understand that they must follow feminist proxy to survive. The "reading list" that the Wash Post article mentions, is a small part of the feminist-political agenda that many boys must endure in school today.

Boys are doing slightly better than girls in science/math, while girls are doing significantly better than boys in reading/writing, and the feminist establishment has been trying to enact a federally sponsored act that will supply girls with more resources to excel in the one area that they are slightly behind in, despite the fact that girls are excelling in all other areas.

Do you think feminists care about the fair and equal education of all children? Or just female children?

I wonder if women do lie better? Seemed to work for that feminist who lost her own work, or her dog ate it or whatever.

Again Christina Hoff Sommers is on the radio tonight at 7western 10 eastern, check your local area, and check men's daily.

CJ what you said is very accurate as far as Christina is concerned, maybe I will find that link that describes her book, it should be on the iwf site. Somewhere.

This list keeps talking about feminism like as though it is the Borg.

The fact is feminism doesn't mean sexism - it doesn't really mean anything except something that someone thinks is vaguely female. I have met feminists who are pro women staying at home and who are for women all working fulltime, feminists who are pro abortion and anti abortion and feminists who think all women should be sole parents to get rid of men and women who think all sole parents should be shot, etc. etc. Where does this list get the idea that feminism is a united war against men with a single agenda? And not just a whole bunch of splintered lobbying groups?

The ideology of feminism today goes far beyond the original and widely supported goal of equal treatment for both sexes. The new agenda is to redistribute power from the "dominant class" (men) to the "subordinate class" (women), and such key concepts of Western jurisprudence as judicial neutrality and individual rights are declared to be patriarchal fictions designed to protect male privilege.

Feminism has initiated increasingly loose and subjective definitions of harassment and rape, dangerous moves to eviscerate the presumption of innocence in sexual assault cases, and a broad concept of self-defense in cases of battered wives that sometimes amounts to a license to kill an allegedly abusive spouse (this is why a "blockbuster" film like "ENOUGH" can flourish today).

Feel free to check out the archives of this site, and you will see a systematic feminist effort that intends to enforce gender preference in all areas of human endeavor...medicine, law, academia, politics, public relations and in the media.

It's scary that many (most) feminists don't even recognize their own sexism and animosity towards men. Misogyny is a documented and familiar word. Misandry isn't even listed in most dictionaries...

Then why the term "Feminism"?

I mean seriously, its as redundant as "self-masterbation".

You dont need to be a feminist to hate or like obortion.

You dont have to be a feminist to hate or like meat, sorry but women have been swindled feminism dictates to women, women no longer dictate to feminism.

And honestly, its so stupid that they just go with whatever sounds good for "them". Denying custody rights, facing accusor rights, the list goes on and on and on. Feminists arent happy until all the cards are in their hands. Their sons will suffer greatly, and Im wondering when the state will finally turn on women? Waiting for the right time to take total control, when men can no longer defend women, and women have sold themselves out, and worstly not just women men as well. People who were given the wrong information. Sounds like a conspiracy to me. Either way, thats whats happening.

I still think it is dangerous to think of ALL women as being part of a anti-male plot or ALL people claiming to be 'feminists' as perceiving what they do as being anything more than a desire for equality not superiority with an infinite range of ideas of how to achieve that.

I don't mean by this that there are no 'femiNazis' nor that there is no such thing as misandry, I am not saying there aren't many areas that show anti-male sexism that need to be addressed - just that there is a danger in seeing all females or all 'feminists' as being united in a single desire to destroy men. There are as many causes and as many 'world views' out there as there are people.

Obviously, people have diverse interests. But look at femininist legistlation, read 'gender study' text books and you will find that they are filled with "Ms-information"...

my point is that although individual feminists may seem diverse, the overall agenda really isn't, and the "feminazi's" you mentioned in your post seem to be at the forefront of the movement.

It may be time for real women to "clean house" because feminism is a sexist sham right now, and moderate feminists have little or no no voice.

They are all anti-male if they are given the wrong information. It is largely not their fault, many of them are good people trying to do the right thing. But thes honest and naive' people are hurting males without knowing it. They are makeing and enforcing polices with out objecting or dissenting or questioning the results of many of these studies. So in the end they are a serious threat even if they are ignorant of it. And if there is no voice to speack up it will continue. More and more we should be saying to this "frontline feminists" prove it!! But what usually happens is nothing but personal attacks and accusations of being a woman hater blah blah blah. Parents should be taking the time to learn what kind of questions teachers are asking kids in english and or math. Such as "If two men build a house that takes 197 hrs to complete how many women were oppressed in that time?"

This may seem trivial and a joke, but Im telling you this type of stuff is apparent in many school books and texts. Object to this and critizise the schools for producing this as education.

I didn't want to read until I hit 4th grade, I think. But hey, it hit anyway. Delight! Wonder! Survivalist books! *Laughs* I really did like those, though I can't think of anyone else in my peer group that felt the same. I got my boyfriend to read the first two books in His Dark Materials books, I hope his old english teacher's tyranny of "you can only read books that somehow deal with oppression of women or minorities!" hasn't bored him too much.
