I was frequently, violently abused by nuns when I was a little boy. In fact, just about every boy with whom I went to school was violently abused by those women. It's worth noting that I never saw a nun hit a girl. 100% of the physical abuse that I saw was by women against boys. I've also spoken with men, who went to Catholic schools around the country, and who say that they had the same experience. Note that the violence perpetrated by the nuns was not discipline. The alleged reason for which I was most frequently beaten was my penmanship. Under the nuns, grade school was a torture chamber for boys.
It's good to see someone is starting to point out the truth with respect to these crimes, though the press and judiciary will probably just focus on sexual abuse rather than all abuse. (Pardon my French, but quite frankly I'd rather be given a hand job than get the hell beaten out of me.)
I've tried tracking down some of the attorneys, who are involved in cases against priests, to see if they'll take a case for me against the Catholic church and the nuns, but so far I've had no luck. Maybe now something will start happening.

Sorry, Thomas, but were you the one that was trying to get something started a while ago, when I started the "What about the Nuns" thread? I knew this would come out sooner or later. Its probably why they are nuns anyways, they has some problems with men, its easier to just become a nun than face the truth I guess.
I do want to say, that I have met some incredible human beings that were nuns or priests, (brothers)etc.. But violence against boys has gone on for to long. I keep hearing about how its different for a young girl to be molested than a boy, in fact the "vagina monologues" glorifies it if its a woman on a 13 year old girl. My local 'sexual assault center' made $10 000 showing that play. I am still stunned. So even when the "Truth Comes Out" they paint it anyway they like. I'd like to call them hypocrites but its far to pale of a word for what they really are.

I'm not sure if I'm the person you're thinking of, but I may be. I've wanted to do something about this at least since the news started breaking big-time about abuse by priests (actually, since before that). I still have no idea if I'll have any legal standing, since my abuse was physical and not sexual (except for some sexual harassment, but that wasn't sexual assault). I've emailed the author of this article asking for help finding a lawyer, who might take my case. I've also tracked down Roderick MacLeish (mentioned in the article), and I may call his office to ask for advice and possibly representation. In addition, I've emailed Glenn Sacks to see if he might be interested in writing an article on this subject. I'd supply him with a list of abusers, and I would sign the list so he could credit it to me. I've also told him that I could probably get him in touch with many other men who would testify about their abuse at the hands of the nuns. (I'd have to ask them first.) We'll see if he responds.
In addition, I'm thinking of writing to Cathy Young to see if she might be interested in writing a column on this subject.
The truth about this should be broadcasted everywhere. The brutal actions of the nuns were monstrous atrocities, and our society for the most part ignores them. (Note the comment in the article: "I don't think people want to go near the fact that women abuse, let alone nuns. But believe me, it is real.")

I think that the "What about the nuns" thread that appeared some time ago was in reply to my "Maureen Dowd's Misandrist Rantings" posting. In that posting, I criticized her for her broad brush portrayal of priests as choosing celibacy because they're running away from feelings that they're ashamed of. I also mentioned that nuns take a similar vow, but nothing was mentioned about them. Hence, the thread followed.

Does anyone have an email address for the Dowd woman? We should wave this in her face big-time and demand that her and her employer address it. Of course, I'm sure that her response will be that it's so rare as to be a non-issue. But Kerrigan and the others mentioned in the article clearly indicate the closed nature of the orders of nuns and there is mention of the fact that nuns cast off their given names as they enter, thereby making it even harder to find a nun than a priest.
The issue of priests as abusers has been hanging around for years, not very-well hidden from view. But I tell you, THIS seems to me to be one immense iceberg. But don't expect Dowd or any other feminist "journalist" to bite. After all, they'd have to admit that women are as abusive as men.

THIS seems to me to be one immense iceberg.
Given what I've seen, I'd bet there was at least ten times as much abuse of children (nearly 100% boys) by nuns as abuse of children by priests.

ONe thing is sure, men , like most other acts of violence rarely come forward on this type of thing.
And as long as the rely on the Department of Justice stats for victims of abuse, than thats how things will remain.
A lot of men are just to busy working or being tuff, I mean seriously, when I talk about abuse by women, my own mother just says stuff like "oh poor baby". Then mock slaps me etc...etc....
Men really need a voice.

Maureen Dowd's email address is liberties@nytimes.com. At least that's the address given next to her column. To see her columns (complete with a picture of her - ack) go to:

Note: You do need to register with the NY times, but at least it's free (except for those columns that are more than one month old).

This is big news. I'm surprised I haven't seen any news "alerts" on this or anything. ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, CNN, and MSNBC should be inviting spokesnuns and experts on and drilling them about how such atrocities could happen. O'Reilly should be up in arms and crying foul. This should be on the front page of every publication in America....
Oh wait, it portrays women as the abusers. Never mind, can't have that (sarcastic sigh).
