Good Portrayals Of Fathers In Advertising

Fatherhood Here's a bit of good news about the portrayal of men. One of the things that I like about the article is the statement regarding the testing of one ad, "The spot tested well with dads, but it tested even better with moms." This sort of thing must drive the genfems, especially many Women's Studies types, absolutely nuts. Despite decades of "Kill your father" types of indoctrination, many women still see the involvement of men with their children as a positive thing.

From the same article:

That dad is portrayed in a more modern way: Dad trying to make dinner, only
able to complete the task thanks to the guidance of a five year-old who
explains, "That's not how Mom does it."

For advertisers who want to make a humorous ad, dad is the perfect
character to poke fun at, explains Mr. Farquhar, because it is safe.

"The number one butt of jokes in ads is the 35- to 45-year-old male. No
matter what situation he's in. If you start poking fun at women or a
minority group, that is a little more sensitive."

Those who like this sort of thing will find this the sort of thing they like.

As far as I know, Scott Garman, has bumper stickers, promoting 'Men's Activisim Org'.
'Sick of Male Bashing in the Media?' Maybe you don't want to put in on your car, but there are other places that are visable that it can be put. You will have to think about where you can. But what Im suggesting is, send Scott a couple of bucks for it or enough to mail it whatever. But I put mine in my window at my back door and my friends who come by ask me about it all the time. I fill them in, and they begin to see what's going on. It's A Stop, Look, and Listen. education program one person at a time.

I didn't miss the bad stuff in this article. But there are some good things going on that are also described in the piece. While we still have a long way to go in our struggle for equality, I think it's good to note positive developments. We are having an impact, small though it may be so far.

Though we have to keep fighting, and there's plenty for us to be angry about, let's celebrate our victories, even if they aren't yet huge.
