And we share it! (At least I do. Can't speak for everyone else.) This is truly fantastic. Another crack in the dam. It will be time to celebrate if Gov. Shaheen signs the bill into law.
Cheers, hail and well done!

I have nothing substantive to add, but I do want to share in the joy with the progress the bill is making. Great work on all parties involved.

If you're from NH, please take a moment to drop a quick note to Governor Shaheen in support of signing this bill. Her address is:
Office of the Governor
State House
Concord, New Hampshire 03301-4990
We should finish hard and carry the torch until this is really over and done with.
There are also some people I'd like to thank for their efforts in making this bill happen:
Mike Genoulis, for leading the NCFC-NH Chapter, and keeping such a level head, and for all of his trips to the NH Statehouse
Rep. David Bickford and Sen. Robert Boyce, for sponsoring the bill and doing all of the "insider work" that was needed for its success
The members of the NH chapter of the National Congress for Fathers and Children, of whom I'm afraid to mention because I might miss one. To those of you who wrote letters, made phone calls, testified, and got other people into a frenzy about this bill - THANK YOU!
Thank you a million times...
Scott
PS - You too, Rams!

Do you think it would help to write to Shaheen at this time if we're not from NH? The world is watching to some extent already, and will moreso as matters unfold after (one hopes) Shaheen signs the bill.

I don't see how it would hurt. Just don't try to hide the fact that you're from out of state, and while the letter might not have any "official" weight, it still can have some psychological weight.

Good idea for out-of-staters to show their support. I have this theory that state government officials and local newspaper editors simply hate getting feedback on local issues from people who are not residents of the state. This is what makes their comments so much more effective.
When the world is watching, you tend to be on your better behavior.

"""The final vote was 18-5 in favor of the bill, a big improvement over the previous 13-10 vote"""
I wonder if all those letters to the editor made a difference in the much improved vote tally?
"""I have informal knowledge that she has expressed her willingness to sign the bill."""
If SHE doesn't, her husband should throw her out and make her sleep in the doghouse! :)
Shouldn't the people who were instrumental (like you Scott) in getting this historic legislation enacted be present at the signing into law ceremony?
It would be nice to have a picture posted of the signing.
Now the next step is to get the Commission $funded$.

Scott: Please let us know how the funding works, including if it's legal for out of state residents to send donations. I'll send what I can, and we might be able to mount a funding campaign by working with other men's issues websites and groups. A great success in NH could add momentum elsewhere.

"I wonder if all those letters to the editor made a difference in the much improved vote tally?"
They very well could have. The NCFC-NH group also did a last minute letter writing campaign to urge the Senators to vote on the bill (it was tabled for a short time) and to reject any proposed changes to the name or scope of the commission (which is what the opposition tried to do to marginalize the commission further).
"Shouldn't the people who were instrumental (like you Scott) in getting this historic legislation enacted be present at the signing into law ceremony?"
I should take some time to make it clear that I was not all that instrumental in getting this thing passed. I got involved with NCFC-NH after the bill had struggled its way through the House. My main contribution was testifying in front of the Senate Internal Affairs Committee, to urge them to recommend the bill for passage. That and letter writing, spreading the word, etc. was all I was able to do. The real action that got this thing passed was the in-person lobbying at the Statehouse that several members of NCFC-NH took time off of work to do.
And as for a signing ceremony, that's very unlikely to happen. I'm sure Shaheen doesn't want to make a big deal out of this, and sign the bill as quietly as possible. I say let her - the outcome will be the same.

Congratulations to Mike Geanoulis for his tireless efforts on behalf of this legislaton. New Hampshire joins the growing list of states that are awakening to the needs of men and fathers.
