Masculist Anthology Bites The Dust

Announcements Well, folks, it's been months upon months since I announced my effort to pull together an anthology of "masculist" literature, commentary, and art. I am saddened to announce that the project appears to now be officially dead. I have been unable to generate enough interest among men's activists for submissions to fill an entire volume, although the submissions I did receive were of very high quality. At one point, I even had a couple of celebrity authors in the mix. Although this project is dead (unless someone else wants to take it up as their own), I do have another one in the works which may generate more interest, or at least will come closer to actual manifestation. :) I appreciate the work of all those who submitted, and I am sorry I can't be the one to get them into print.

Hi Nightmist,

I can't help but wonder if the use of the term "masculist" may itself have had an impact on the success of your venture.

I know that I, personally, react fairly poorly to it. The obvious assumption is that a masculist is the male equivalent of a feminist -- and I sure as shootin' don't want anyone thinking that *I* have any traits in common with a feminist. I believe in equality.

feminism = hate/prejudice/supremacy/special privilege
masculism = feminism?

It's like the argument some men here have made against iFemininsts.com. Wendy may be doing good things (and I believe she is, and I'm thankful for it), but she's hurting her credibility by referring to her group as 'feminists.'

How about "male-positive" instead of "masculist?" Just an idea... :-)

In any case, I sincerely hope the material you gathered together finds it's way to the light of day.

Good luck, Nightmist, and thanks for your efforts.

I'm sorry to hear this, James. Yours is an idea whose time has not quite come. Keep the contact information for those who've made fine submissions. This may prove to be a worthwhile venture before long.

BTW, I understand your frustration. I've talked with several men who, when they were children, were brutally abused by nuns. They all express a great deal of anger, but when I suggest doing something, they all balk.

My God, this takes patience.

We'd certainly be interested in cyberManbooks.com in looking at continuing the anthology. I think I speak for Trudy Schuett as well as myself is saying that we are dedicated to putting men's movement material together and out into the world. Ideas like that are just what we are looking for, and we are starting to build up a repertoire of men's publishing, including fiction and humour as well as more serious works. It all takes time, but we'll get there!
