U.N Activities on CEDAW

News frank h writes "I submit this because it is useful for us to be aware of what's going on in the international arena on "women's rights" and because the Bush administration has done something (small though it may be) to tame the American representation thereto. We could all agree that CEDAW has no reason to exist, but then again, it DOES exist and the U.S. needs to pay attention. In the world of women's rights, I'm afraid the world, lead by the women of the European Union, is against us. Mighty steep odds, I'd say. I guess they better go get help!! :-)"

He says that what the UN Women's Commission do with the money they get is not controllable by him or any of the other National Ministers.

You can follow what the UN is doing here: http://www.un-instraw.org/en/index.html Mind I'll warn those with weak stomaches to be prepared...

One thing to note in this article is the reference to NGA's. NGA's are "non-government agencies" and in this case, it would appear that the only NGA's being represented here are women's groups. It's a money thing, I know, but it would be nice of there was a man's NGA showing up there.
