MTV Bashes Men

The Media Anonymous User writes "MTV's TRL (Total Request Live) ran an episode this week called "Ass-Kicking Chicks" featuring 10 of the most popular female acts in music. Videos of the artists were shown and the artists were interviewed, and they talked about how unfair life is for women. Male-bashing was of course the central theme of the show. Just when I thought it couldn't get any worse the two hostesses wrapped up the show by thanking all the women featured and finished with a comment for men..."and thanks for men for being so much lamer than we are" said the one while the other followed with "losers!" and put her hand in the shape of an L on her forehead. I figured they might take it back or add a "just kidding," but they didn't. That was the final send-off. I don't have a link for the show or MTV but I'm sure there is one."

MTV has become a conditioning station to expose youth to alternative lifestyles, and misandry has been a central theme in much of it's programming...

If you are gay, a woman or a minority, you can bet that MTV will portray you in a positive fashion. Men (boys) - are the enemy and are only "cool" if they are overly in-touch with their feminine side, or act like complete Jackasses (hence the show "Jackass" that is about boys (often naked) intentionally putting themselves at risk doing stupid stunts).

Part of the whole "grrl power" thing is teaching young girls how to intentionally disrespect the opposite gender... it's easy to get this message across, especially after seeing shows like Jackass. Also, no one really complains that most of the music marketed towards young girls vilifies the male gender, yet is wrapped in cool contemporary sounds that are appealling to youn girls.

MTV is all about "catchin' em' while their young." Rock has always been anti-establishment, MTV barely shows music anymore, it's all about the message now, and the message often isn't very good if you are male.

I agree.

Worthy of note is that MTV doesn't show much rock anymore. It's mostly pop, rap, and R&B/hip-hop. I was waiting FOREVER for them to show the new Tool video ("Schism", which is nominated for a Grammy) and they won't show it! Not to mention they rarely show videos from even popular bands like Creed, P.O.D., Staind, etc. They must hate white males or something.

And to the girls who dissed the guys: if you really believe men and women aren't equal, childish name-calling and harassment is no way to level a playing field.
"Female men's activist" is not an oxymoron.

Perhaps we should have MTV charged for inciting hate, that is if it's possible under the hate crimes laws.

or VH1 either. Its pretty sad that I have to preview most of new music over Limewire. Maybe MP3.com will start there own music network that actually... get this... plays music.

I have dumped MTV ages ago. It all stated going down hill with Remote Control (reaching back anyone?). Once they stopped the music, I stopped watching.

Damn! When did MTV start showing nudity? I've heard about "Jackass," but I didn't realize it was a misandry-fest. I haven't watched MTV since way back in 1993. I was getting disgusted with it even then.

The other male image that MTV does like to portray is the hardcore, kneecapping, thuggin, I slapped that bitch upside the head, gangster.

To make it on MTV, you have to be a badass or a dumbass. Wonder what message that send to both young women and men.

We mustn't forget the boyband phenomenon. I daresay most of the music directed towards young girls is actually of this variety.

Being a cookie-cutter pretty boy without a brain in your head who spends his whole life writing love ballads to the criminally underage is in. The most individually you're allowed is being the "outsider" in the band, which is to say behave exactly the same, but wear a goatee and say "yo" or "word" once in awhile.

LOL!

The popular music scene today is sooooo lame. It was much better than this when I was fifteen - which, unfortunately, was twenty years ago! Come on, we want bands that can play their instruments, band members who are old enough to shave, and songs we'll remember twenty years from now. No wonder they hate men so much; men are everything they aren't: energetic, talented, and post-pubescent. I have neighbours who play crappy dance music for hours, and it makes me fear for civilisation. I should break into their house, tie them to chairs and play them some early Black Flag. You see, all this moden music is just so much [rants on through fade-out]...
