Men: The Expendable Sex

from the draft dept.
The Draft I wrote this column about the draft and the perceived expendability of men versus women a while back for my now-defunct The Guy Code column. Wendy McElroy at ifeminists.com graciously agreed to use it as a guest editorial on her page. I am also linking to it from MANN because the draft is, of course, a hot topic for us.

Reading the "Drop The Gun Control Shtick" section of the editorial, I was stunned.
Maybe it was meant in a sarcastic way, I don't know -- but ensuring that Americans all are armed with weapons most surely won't solve any terrorist problems! That's just plain ludicrous!

Allowing everyone to have a weapon like this is ludicrous! Having immediate access to that kind of firepower (ie, gun) is just bordering on insane! I would definitely not feel any safer knowing that every Joe (and Jane) Citizen was carrying a deadly weapon!

agreed, fredpro, guns won't solve anything, only worsen the situation

however, it must be pointed out that the left has used gun control as a smokescreen for failing to address the actual roots of america's domestic chaos -- like femifascism, for example, or the removal of male influence from childrens' lives, or the runaway prison-industrial complex, or the indoctrination camps that our universities have become

the left finds it much more convenient to blame guns than to blame themselves

Although I have progressive leanings, I think there's some truth to what you say here. Except for the part about the prison-industrial complex. Green party types raise more awareness about the prison industrial complex than either Democrats or Republicans do. I wish they would see its linkage to the oppression of men.

the toxic king of the right and the empowered witch of the left both profit from the man cages -- their excuse is commission of "crimes against the public conscience"

"public conscience" -- talk about an american oxymoron

a few years ago the greens in new mexico tried to recruit me as a representative at their state convention -- we shared many concerns about the health of the land

i investigated, and discovered that, among other inconsistencies, they had been mailing out survey/recruitment questionnaires, one block of which read: are you a white male? (check yes or no)-- this came from the feminist/rad lesbian wing of their enclave

i laughed in their faces -- here they were representing themselves as morally superior, of raised consciousness, yet were employing the same discriminatory practices they claimed to abhor

the green are largely ineffective exactly for this reason -- they lack strong male presence -- i found the men in the movement to be deferential to, and intimidated by, women

american "progressivism" is regressive
