Justice Dept. Stats on Gay Domestic Violence
posted by Scott on Thursday November 01, @04:11PM
from the gay/bisexual-men dept.
Gay/Bisexual Men Neil Steyskal sent along this link to a report about the latest Bureau of Justice Statistics report which for the first time includes data about domestic violence against homosexuals. Again, this is a crime survey, not a sociology or family violence study, and it exhibits the typical bias against men who are less likely to report domestic violence (including homosexuals, who have other reasons to fear contacting the police for help). Still, we should make note of this because the Justice Dept. stats are the ones most widely used by battered women's advocates, who have been able to define domestic violence over the past quarter century.

Distorted statistics

Ain't it somethin' the way feminists claim that a high percentage of rapes aren't reported, because many women are embarassed or afraid to contact the police, yet they ignore the same facts about men who don't report domestic violence in which they are victimized?

Yes, it's somethin'.

It's the old "if-it-doesn't-fit-with-my-hypothesis-I'll-ignore- it" system of methodology.
"Female men's activist" is not an oxymoron.
