New website: "Breaking the Science"

mbr writes "I've finally done it! For ages I've wanted to gather articles I've written all together in one place. I've now created a website called Breaking the Science. Check it out at http://www.breakingthescience.org.

Most of the articles currently on the website are related to domestic violence. I hope eventually to include articles that will broaden the focus beyond that to the entire subject of how too much research in the soft sciences is driven by the researchers' agenda rather than objectivity."

Are Men Necessary?

My Sweetiepie, Maureen Dowd (don't tell my other Sweetiepie, Hillary Clinton), is getting more press for her new book, "Are Men Necessary?"

It's interesting for me to read about this sort of professional blathering from English speaking women, because I no longer have an emotional response to it. Except for the few who are men's rights activists, these folks have become pretty much irrelevant to me. Not an irritation. Not a joke.

Irrelevant.

Girl bullying continues to hit UK headlines

AngryMan writes "This is the third major story in as many weeks reporting serious assaults among high school girls in the UK.

In the first case, a 12 yo girl had her face slashed by another girl using the blade from a pencil sharpener. She suffered serious injuries and may be scarred for life.

Last week 15yo Natasha Jackman was the victim of a multiple stabbing in the school cafeteria, and underwent eye surgery as a result. Three girls were arrested on conspiracy to commit grievous boldily harm and pervert the course of justice.

This time, 15yo Danielle Price was punched repeatedly in the face by another girl after receiving two achievement awards in high school.

So much for sugar and spice and all things nice."

Nowegian Government On the Verge...

... of madness, or so it seems. Story here.

Norway has said it might close down companies that fail to meet proposed boardroom quotas for women.

The new coalition government in Oslo said it was considering introducing a law which would require 40% of boardroom posts to be filled by women.

.

.

.

"It is a question of power," the spokeswoman said, insisting that several surveys had found that companies where both sexes were strongly represented on the board were more profitable.

"For a woman to get in a man must get out. It is not difficult to find qualified women."

Bush administration accuses SIU of anti-white and anti-male bias

From the Chicago Sun Times, "President Bush's administration has threatened to sue Southern Illinois University, alleging its fellowship programs for minority and female students violate federal civil rights laws by discriminating against whites, men and others...

The University has engaged in a pattern or practice of intentional discrimination against whites, non-preferred minorities and males...

The letter demands the university cease the fellowship programs, or the department's civil rights division will sue SIU by Nov. 18...

I don't think there's any way that Southern Illinois can defend these programs legally, and I don't understand why they'd want to run a program that refuses to consider some individuals on the basis of their skin color...

"I'll be upfront with you -- no white male will get this award,'' McNeil said."

MA Lt. Gov. seeks GPS for restraining orders

CJ writes "Story here. Excerpt:

Lt. Gov. Kerry got mixed reviews as she continued her push for the state to attach electronic tracking bracelets to certain people who violate restraining orders.

Healey's bill requires Global Positioning System (GPS) tracking as a condition of probation for people convicted of violating a restraining order issued due to domestic relations concerns. It is necessary to curb the "genuinely staggering" statistics of domestic abuse cases here each year, she said last week."

CNN Article Addresses Family Issues in French Unrest

bandersnatch writes "From CNN:

Families break down in the pressure-cooker of crime, poverty and unemployment. Many single mothers are left to fend alone, said Imloul, a single mother herself whose Algerian parents divorced before her father's death. "Fathers do not play any role in their children's lives. The father doesn't exist at all. French justice gives full rights to mothers," Imloul said. Coming to France has given some Muslim North African women new freedoms. "They want to lead a similar life as their French counterparts," Imloul said. "But it is very difficult to leave a patriarchal culture all of a sudden. Women take on the responsibility of both mother and father while they are not at all suited for it. In the end, it is their children who suffer." She estimated 40 percent of families in the suburbs where she works are dysfunctional, causing a high rate of school dropouts, drug use, petty crimes and aggressive behavior. Police records for petty crimes burden youths, making it harder to build a productive life, she said."

Concord Monitor Reports on Men's Commission Findings

The traditionally anti-male Concord Monitor published a glowing article on the findings of the New Hampshire Commission on the Status of Men's first biennial report. Mentioning all of the issues the Commission reported on, the article is a decent summary of the 44-page report.

NCFM, NY and GLBT Community Working Together

Peter Allemano writes "NCFM's (National Coalition of Free Men) Greater New York Chapter experimented several times during the Spring by participating in 'Orientation' night at The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center here in New York, where we manned a table, greeted visitors and gave away literature. The overwhelmingly positive reception suggested that taking the next step and scheduling
presentations at The Center might be worthwhile."

(Thomas writing now) Gay/bisexual men are, in general, well-educated and organized. In addition, because they have fewer children on average than heterosexuals, they have time for political activities and a relatively large amount of disposable income. (Several years ago, I read that, because of this, numerous companies had begun advertising campaigns designed to appeal to this demographic.) To the extent that the Men's Rights Movement works with gay/bisexual men, I believe we all stand to gain.

Warren Farrell on NBC Nightly News Tonight

Warren Farrell writes "Here's NBC's question: If a mom takes a leave of absence, if she wishes to return should she be guaranteed her same job at the same pay? I think you'll appreciate my answer (a la Why Men Earn More). NBC Nightly News is this Friday, Nov. 11th at 6:30 pm Eastern, 5:30 in the rest of the country. And that would be the perfect time to do an Amazon order if you are thinking about giving your daughter or son a Christmas or Chanukah present that will both help them earn more and have a better life."

You can let NBC know your answer by writing to Nightly@NBC.com.

If you haven't purchased Warren's latest book, "Why Men Earn More: The Startling Truth Behind the Pay Gap -- and What Women Can Do About It," this is a good time to provide support for a man who has done a tremendous amount to advance men's rights.
