Any one ever hear of Anne mae Aquash?
Probably not.
She was a Lakota Indian woman. She had dark hair and brown eyes. She went missing and was later found dead, some years ago. It is beleived that the F.B.I. had something to do with it, but I don't know. Any way there was very little said about her in the media, then or now.
If you want to know more about her you might try a GOOGLE search, or something.
Alot of Indians go missing every year, for a multiplicity of reasons.
Ever hear about it?
Probably not...
Some day if anyone notices that I have stopped posting here and on Indian activist sites, you can bet on two things I have either died of old age at 52 years of age, as many Indian men do, or someone didn't like what I have to say and "took me for a ride".
Now that I think about it, amoung Indians it is also usualy the men that "go missing". But you'll never hear about it from our, oh, so objective news media.
But yeah, Blonde hair, blue eyed females, you'll hear PLENTY about.
Anyone else think that some people (The media, law enforcement, the government, etc.)need to get their priorities straight...?

Thundercloud,
While I wish you a very long life and a good death, there's another likely reason you could turn up missing.
With all the attention VAWA 2005 has planned for tribal "peoples," (i.e. men) targeting American Indians as a "special" population with "special" domestic violence issues ....
If you ever turn up missing, my first suspicion will be that the beefed up DV stormtrooper's Special Global Rez Squad got an anonymous 911 call about an unreformed MRA with a dangerous attitude and a keyboard.
Maybe it's time to make a list of your enemies now, especially any women scorned, and give it to a trusted friend? ;-)

Roy- I knew there was someting I forgot to mention.
The VAWA, being targeted to Indians. BTW, you'll probably notice that it is aimed at Indian men ONLY. Indian women are just as capable of D.V. as any Indian man is. Or as any White, Black, Asian, etc. But they will only be targeting "male abusers". Also just as it is in most "comunities" Indian women are also more likely to abuse their children. Especialy boys. But there will be nothing in this version of the VAWA about that, either.
Un-fortunately, feminism has gotten to our women, too. There was a time when Indian men and women had a very special and sacred relationship to one another. Now it is all but gone. Feminism is MUCH to be blamed for this.
Too be fair we Indian men are to blame as well as feminism and our women. We often stood by and let it happen. Including yours truely. We thought; 'Hey, if it helps women it can't be a bad thing.'
We were wrong....,
Thundercloud.

No, I haven't seen that movie, but that scene sounds par-for-the-course.

"Said Dori Maynard, president of the Robert C. Maynard Institute for Journalism Education, a group that works to improve diversity in newsrooms and news coverage: "In terms of giving citizens the information they need, I think we're failing because we're not giving an accurate portrayal of the world around them."
The above sounds long overdue . . however, who in the institute is looking at the way Domestic Violence against men is covered, as opposed to the coverage of DV against women . . and the funding each attracts ?

This has really been on my mind a lot lately, and I'm glad to see someone doing a post on this topic here. There's a news talk show with Cal Thomas on Fox and this was discussed. Yes, white blond females really get the press, and there are all kinds of missing black men who you'll never hear about. I care about all crime victims, but what's with the outright bigotry of news media?
