"What Are Men's Issues?" Introductory Flyer
posted by Scott on 06:04 AM April 16th, 2004
Announcements After many delays, I've finally converted Steve van Valkenburg's What Are Men's Issues? document to PDF format to make it available for easier distribution. Click on the link to download it or find it in the Activism Projects box on the right side of the main page. We encourage everyone to download, print, and distribute this document wherever appropriate. It's a wonderful introduction and summary of men's issues and is a great resource to be used in men's advocacy. I'd like to thank Steve and everyone who contributed to its creation for doing such a professional job!

Here's an inexpensive suggestion for men's advocates...

Xerox "What Are Men's Issues" and mail a copy to every feminazi domestic violence counseling service and feminist womynz shelter in your area.

You can easily locate a directory of your state's DV services and shelters by Googling on the web.

At 39 cents a shot, this ammunition needs to be directed at the most grievous anti-male gender-fascists... if only to put them on notice that "your deceitful game is over!"

...and have it immediately get thrown in the trash.

We need to target the moderates and people who still have a shred of objectivity and reasonableness left in them. Preaching to the choir or our true enemies is not going to reap any fruit.

I totally agree. The anti-male hate brigades are just not worth talking to.

We picketed a D.V. awards dinner one year and some of "them" were really, really upset. We had nice big protest signs, and walked a picket line in front of their event. They were even more shocked later, when we went in wearing suit and tie to attended their banquet (we left the big picket signs in our cars). You see we had paid for and reserved a table. We did wear little 4 X 6 clip on protest signs on our clothes, however.

One of us had written diferent sayings in Word documents, then just printed them out on 4 X 6 photo film on a cheapy Cannon printer. Then he just stuck them on conference badges with two sided tape. Did the whole thing quick and easy with stuff from Staples.

Here's the clincher. It got back to us just before a future event that they were really worried about being picketed again. It seems they get sponsor money for various souces, and people don't want to give to controversial things that the public is upset with.

If you really want to have an effect get a dozen or so people with signs and picket their public events. One man from the enemy group even showed up and tried to take pictures of all the protesters, and wouldn't tell us his name when asked so I took his picture and a picture of the license plate of his vehicle. That's just how Nazified that whole group is about free speech. Nothing ever happened to any of us, but if you're the shy type, just get one of those masks that covers the eyes, mine is red white and blue.

You can search the internet to find out about their events, and I highly do recommend picketing them with other people as witnesses. If you have one of those d.v. restraining orders check with legal resources (a lawyer) before doing any activism projects of any kind. If enough people picketed their public events you be surprised at how much of an effect it would have.

It's a great piece and a useful tool. Thanks to the good folks who put it together.

Feminists are quick to insist that women and girls in other parts of the world (developing countries and Islamic cultures) are really in a difficult situation. The tendency for feminist ideologues and their friends in the media is to focus only on the problems of women in these countries while ignoring the ways in which males are at risk. It's why I quit giving to Amnesty International.

Maybe eventually an updated version of this brochure will include info on the vulnerabilities of males in developing countries.

Even the use of trickery or force (i.e. rape) on the part of the female does not necessarily excuse the male from child support. This article discusses a number of cases, some of which indicate this. For instance, recovering the contents of a condom used for oral sex can lead to child support. There is one case where a man was raped at a party while apparently passed out from drinking. Even these circumstances were not considered an excuse to avoid child support. Yet there was a case Cf. Division of Child Support Enforcement ex rel. Esther M. v. Mary L., where a female was excused from child support because of a rape. Elsewhere, there was a case where child support was charged though the sexual activity was "involuntary". Only perhaps the issue of paternity was important. Another article mentions, among other things, the ramifications of sperm being stolen from a sedated male patient.

It's good to see that this document will be of use as an introduction to men's issues, as intended. I plan to revise it and include appendicies in future editions.

Thanks also to Trudy Schuett for providing the original template for this document.
