Here's what I sent to letters@washpost.com:
To whom it may concern,
Someone at your end wrote that allowing more restraining orders would be a
good idea.
I don't think so.
It seems to me that restraining orders are too often some sleazy bozo's
attempt to manipulate the legal system.
Joseph Vallrio (D-Prince George's) agrees that the expanded authority
would be subject to abuse.
Retired Massachusetts judge Malcolm Jones said that a third of all
restraining orders are used merely for leverage in divorce cases.
The City of Lawrence, MA was recently fined $5000 because a man was
arrested for violating a bogus restraining order.
Let's legislate with integrity.
