It is another tragedy where innocent Children die. What gets me is the counter measures that they are pushing in Japan. GPS systems with connections at the gates of schools. It sure wouldn't have helped these two Children. Another link in the chain that tightens around our global neck. Using fear to start programs that will make us nothing more than constantly watched. Aynn Rand would be proud.

This story is being followed up on the news every day over here. My ex's relatives live in that city, and while the newspaper's quote "west of Tokyo" is technically true, that's only so in the sense that Gary, Indiana is "west of Boston". It is in fact about 100 km north of Kyoto.

Some important points:

* The murderer (I feel safe in saying this; she's confessed) is Chinese, and seems to have developed mental problems due to her inability to fit into Japanese society. Unfortunately the Japanese media, in their neverending rivalry with other Asian nations, is mentioning her Chineseness at every possible opportunity. (And rather than read her name in the Chinese manner "Chang", they're using the Japanese reading "Tei", which surely she doesn not refer to herself as. Minor annoyance on my part.)

* People are already shifting the blame to her husband, who *presumably* works long hours and doesn't spend time with his family. (Note that no evidence of this ie ever shown, nor is it considered that he might not have a choice in his working hours...)

* They're insinuating that it may have been premeditated. Supposedly until last year, the kids walked to school in a big group, and this mother was one who voted to abolish this and have the parents take their kids instead. I think this is coincidence, though.

It hasn't stopped raining in that town since the two kids died. Everyone's miserable. I just hope they don't overreact and institute some Orwellian nonsense like GPS tracking in everyone's clothes and shout down dissenters with "for the children" nonsense.

This is much more a "Japan's treatment of ethnic minorities" issue than it is a "woman murderer" issue. She'll be severely punished; there will be no silly Western woman defence that gets her only probation.

THAT is GOOD to hear!

You know something? The fact that women in the West KNOW they will get little to no punishment for their crimes, particularly against male children, means that MORE women are going to commit these types of crimes, because there is NO DETERANT factor in the sentencing of women, the way there is the sentencing of men, here in the West.
