Female Killer Jailed -- on Appeal
posted by Matt on 11:56 AM November 4th, 2005
Inequality AngryMan writes "UK: A woman kicked a grandmother to death in a row over a parking space. She wasn't jailed! A female judge gave her three years' probation and 240 hours' unpaid work, because she expressed remorse. The dead woman's family appealed, and the Appeal judge has sentenced the killer to 4 years. This is regarded as a victory. How much would a man have got for the same offence? Story here."

More double standards (Score:0)

"In a written judgment, he and two other judges said her actions had been: "devoid of any mitigating circumstances....We consider that the advocate depute was well-founded in maintaining that the sentencing judge [Lady Dorrian] failed to take adequate account of the serious nature of McMillan's attack on Mrs Whittle and that she attached undue weight to McMillan's later expressions of remorse," they wrote.

They say that it's only men who look out for each other, old boys club etc etc.. and here you have a very senior judge who is completely unable to look at the facts rationally because the scumbag she's dealing with is another woman. She effectively let her off because of the extent of the "remorse" she has supposedly shown.

It's truly disgusting that such an obvious double standard exists. Look at the appeal court judges' words. Her actions were "devoid of any mitigating circumstances" Yet this female sentenced her to probation.....for kicking a 58yr old grandmother in the head and killing her.

Somebody tell me that could ever have happened had a man been involved.

So much for the "Women Don't start Violence" (Score:1)

Everytime I see one of these articles I think yeah what judge and womens group is going to proudly boast that women don't start domestic violence.

In this case the victim just happened to be a female. I guarantee if you went and interviewed her husband this wasn't the first time.
