How Many VAWA Bills Are We Fighting?
posted by Matt on 09:46 PM September 12th, 2005
Domestic Violence Roy writes "Can anyone with Congressional process expertise explain why there appear to be four active bills reauthorizing the Violence Against Women Act in the House and Senate? House bills HR 3171, HR 2876, HR 3402, and Senate bill S. 1197 all seek to renew VAWA. On Sept. 8th, S. 1197 was reported out of the Judiciary Committee "with an amendement in the nature of a substitute favorably." I believe that means a full Senate vote is upcoming soon. Look 'em all up on http://thomas.loc.gov."

Ed. note: RADAR folks, please respond to this inquiry. -- Matt

RADAR's New Alert Clarifies VAWA Bills Status (Score:0)

RADAR's latest alert on its web site states that an ammended S. 1197 bill was reported out of the Senate Judiviary Committee for an upcoming full-Senate vote:

" ... on Thursday the Senate Judiciary Committee approved new language that states - 'Nothing in this title shall be construed to prohibit male victims of domestic violence...from receiving benefits and services under this title.' -

The Senate language is not as strong as the House language. But that is not a complete surprise since key VAWA advocates (Kim Gandy of NOW and Eleanor Smeal of the Feminist Majority), worried that our efforts might actually succeed, went to Capital Hill at the last minute to do some serious arm-twisting.

S. 1197 has now been sent to the floor where it awaits a full vote by the Senate. It will likely pass by unanimous consent.
...

The next step is for the House of Representatives to approve HR 3402. This bill is the budget appropriation bill for the Department of Justice, to which VAWA was added at the last minute. Because appropriations bills are often controversial, House approval may take awhile.

Once the House approves its bill, then VAWA will go to Conference Committee. The Conference Committee will iron out the differences between the Senate and House versions of VAWA. We do not know when this will happen, but it may take several weeks."

-------

The complete RADAR alert goes on to announce a new stage of "Shock & Awe" to coincide with the final weeks of VAWA approval.

It's now apparent that the weak reform language in both the Senate and House bills will do nothing to mandate funding or services for male DV victims, as all the billions in tax dollars will still be controlled by the feminist Office for Violence Against Women.

If anyone can declare "victory" at the end of this charade, it will be the politicians who have deceitfully crafted language that allows them to say they supported "gender-neutrality" while leaving the entire feminist VAWA empire to continue and expand its anti-men, anti-women, anti-family destructiveness.

What lessons are MRAs learning?

October is domestic violence awareness month, and I'm sure the gender feminists, all fat with their new tax-payer's monies for VAWA, will be vilifying men at all new levels.

I certainly hope there will also be MRA's making the effort to educate the public about male victims of domestic violence, female battereres, and the gender feminist fraud present in domestic violence laws.

I certainly will. Remember, I was published a couple of months ago with regard to DV and male victims.

SAFE-NH has outreach activities at all times not just during October. However, there will be extra efforts during October so that the voices of our clients WILL be heard.
Also, if you are a male victim of Domestic Violence, please e-mail ua at safenh@safe4all.org
and include a number that I can reach you at and times that are convenient to contact you. Otherwise, share your story via e-mail. We have been in contact with 2 film producers and several reporters that we are working with in order to get stories of male victims out in the public. This is a very important series of projects. Finally, on TV and in the press, we will be heard and perspectives among people will change in spite of the ongoing falsehoods that have been predominant.
We have been working towards this for quite a while but now we need to develop a panel of men who are willing to share their experiences.

I will be posting a survey form soon, here and in other locations as well as taking requests through our website for it. This "survey" will have specific questions as well as opportunities for victims/survivors to easily give us the information we need.
SAFE-NH is "making a difference" and we hope that many men will "Take a Stand" with us during this time!
Please make your initial contact via e-mail in order to keep our crisis line open for emergency callers. I will personally return your e-mails and arrange phone discussions.
Thanks in advance to the men who will step forward with courage to do this so that we can end the bias against men who are on the receiving end of domestic violence.
Take care,

There's an excellent 23:00 MP3 format radio program interview with Dr. Stephen Baskerville talking about VAWA 2005 and The DV Industry -- available on Angry Harry's web site. (Link below.)

Stephen Baskerville is a well-known MRA who has articulated how the feminist bureaucracy has become the main weapon in the federal government's destruction of the family.

He declares bluntly that VAWA is a tool for oppression, denial of civil rights, and state intrusion into family and private matters -- "federalizing all personal disputes as potential criminal acts...."

Quote: "We're in a vicious spiral, where the government is destroying families and then claiming that it has ways that it's going to save them."

Complete interview link is on Harry's site -

www.harrysnews.com/pgmen.htm.

It is the fifth header from the top of the "Men's Issues" page, titled THE DV INDUSTRY.

What a really great person Dr. Baskerville is, and what a truly horribly unAmerican piece of legislation VAWA is.

To answer your question, Roy:

In the House, VAWA started as HR 2876. Then the Judiciary Committee folded VAWA into another bill, which is numbered HR 3402.

In the Senate, the VAWA bill number is S. 1197.

Thanks for your ongoing support of our efforts to make VAWA male-inclusive!
