The Masters Tournament - Augusta
posted by Matt on 06:55 PM April 8th, 2005
News Ray writes "The Master's Tournament is at it again, and so is Martha Burk. Uh, not exactly parallel events. The Masters is a golf tournament and the other is a feminist protest of the tournament. The protest supposedly draws attention to the tournament's allegedly horrible oppression of women. Carrie Lukas writes here . '...as sure as the Azaleas will bloom, millions of Americans are going to watch the final round on Sunday. In doing so, they will be celebrating golf's finest tradition, not a scourge against women.'"

This issue is being discussed on the Caplis and Silverman show (Denver 630 KHOW) right now. Normally I agree with them, but they appear to be agreeing with Martha Burk on this issue. I was able to send them the link from this article.

Craig and Dan,

Regarding the Augusta National tournament, here is an interesting link:

"The harm to stockholders pales beside the harm to working women. If the largest companies can send the message that sex discrimination is acceptable, it has a legitimizing effect that goes far beyond Augusta. It trickles down to frontline management, it permeates the culture, and it stifles women's progress."

As a male citizen of California, I’m offended at Martha Burk’s petty "peeveance" at the Master's Tournament. Everyman in California is far, far more greatly discriminated against than her precious, privileged sex so I say this about gender feminist influence that's "whined" its way into California laws and now Draconically impacts every man in America.

“The harm to taxpayers pales beside the harm to society. If the largest state government in America can send the message (as it routinely does in so many of its misandrist laws) that sex discrimination is acceptable against men, it has a legitimizing effect that goes far beyond California. It trickles down to frontline societal institutions like schools, newspapers, churches etc., it permeates the culture, and it stifles every man's rights not only in California, but in all of America.”

"The Patriarchy" spotted at Augusta National (Score:2)

AUGUSTA, GA (Reuters) - Several eyewitnesses at the Augusta National golf tournament claim that they have spotted the elusive group of men known as "The Patriarchy" on the greens. Apparently these white-robed elderly men have been escorted around the manicured course in luxury golf carts in order to get a close up view of the PGA tournament.

"At one point I saw some of these men approach Tiger Woods in order to shake his hand" said one of the groundskeepers at the course, on condition of anonymity. "Later that day I saw these same men signing what appeared to be some kind of contract with a group of executives from an oil company" he continued.

Meanwhile, Martha Burk and a group of protesters stood outside the chain link fence surrounding the golf course. When "The Patriarchy's" golf carts apparently came into view, they were greeted with jeers and obscenities from the protesters. Some of the demonstrators threw golf balls over the fence at the men, although none of them were reportedly hit.

The owner of the Augusta National course, Hootie Johnson, has categorically denied any involvement between his course and "The Patriarchy." "Look, we're just here to have a top-class golf course for the PGA tournament" Johnson said. "Any connection between us and "The Patriarchy" is merely a figment of Martha Burk's imagination" he concluded. At that, Johnson retreated to a mahogany lined meeting room with a number of documents.

Just before Johnson entered this room, this reporter caught a fleeting glimpse of what may have been a white robed man entering the room, although it is hard to be certain of this.

I remember reading and artical where the writer had interviewed the preisent of the lcub "Hootie" Johnson and he mentioned that she's not going to be abvle to pressure the club into allowing women into it. In his words: "If the club wants to admit women, then they'll do it when they're ready, not by the blade of a machete!"

Heck, the club has no formal amitting process for new people. When they want you to join the club, they come to you, not you to them.

Okay, I know I've asked this question before, and it is a semi-rhetorical question, but why is it that ALL FEMALE clubs, groups and organizations are just fine, but ALL MALE clubs, groups and organizations are "DISCRIMINATORY"????

Oh, there I go again trying to apply logic to feminist mind-sets.
Silly me.

"why"

It's all due to the myth of male power and the myth of female oppression. that the gender feiminsts have legislated into law. Gee, the first part of that sentence sounds like a good title for a book.

G-fem ideology is rife with b.s. about male privilege and how all men benefit from it. Women have hitch-hiked on the back of the civil rights movement, where many people had really suffered discrimination. Women have suffered historical discrimination in some areas, but men have too and that is not recognized. Certainly, the discrimination that women experienced by the time of the 60's was nowhere near as great as that holding back racial minorities. It is ridiculous for females as a class of people to be given speical entitlement today. As Warren Farrell points out they are the only class of people to be oppressed that live longer than their oppressor, and have more privileges than their oppressor. I believe when you look at net worth they actually have the greater share of the wealth in their pockets too. Believe it or not some men's rights activist are suing places that discriminate against men in the same way women have sued. There will probably be more of these suits as awareness of the bigotry of the gender feminists grows.

So true, Ray.
The fact is that any and all of the feminist's REASONABLE demands were met long ago. I.E. the right to vote, work, etc.
Now what we are seeing is GROSSS OVER-COMPENSATION for women, for any and all "wrongs" real and (Mostly) imagined.
Feminists seem to believe that this over-compensation is actually EQUALITY. And that they deserve it.
How much do you want to bet that my people (Amer-Indians) will NEVER see over compensation of any kind, and we have had it worse than ANY (non-Indian) women. Hell, we can barely get compensation of ANY kind let alone OVER compensation...! I'd LOVE to see the feminist reply to that. I REALLY would. The excuses would be laughable, I'm sure.
