The vessel was equipped a desalination unit for water, a navigation system and a satellite phone to keep her in contact with family and friends. Not to mention the boat and the design of it and the safety team following her every move.

Your response , Anon, is something of a knee jerk male reaction, I think. The point is that she demonstrated that she is not weak , helpless and defenseless. Therefore she should not be entitled to the privileges traditionally granted to women based on the fallacy that women are weak, helpless and defenseless. I do not oppose womens rights. I oppose the retention by women of anachronistic gender privilege. We have lost all gender privilege. Gender equality can only be achieved only if women lose their totally unwarranted unjustifiable gender privileges.

I don't know if she demonstrated her strength and abilities so well if, as was said, she had a help-team to "make sure she was okay." In combat [at least, if you're male] there is no hand-holding, no one to gently lead you out if you decide "this is too tough."
However, I think both of you are right, it's time to give in to feminist demands and stop cosseting - and see how they like it. ;P

Frankly, I don't care if women KEEP their special privliges as long as men are given the SAME special privliges.
At least THAT would be some kind of equality.

Not exactly a knee jerk just I appreciate more than this recent epic, men in history who sailed to what they thought was the edge of the earth, this women took a sat phone so she could keep up with the Soaps as she paddled across the Pacific. Kind of reminds me of Nero fiddling whilst Rome burnt.
I'm not that far away from piloting a Boeing 747 from me keyboard mate.

"Heyerdahl and his team crossed the Pacific on a balsa raft named the Kon-Tiki in 101 days, in a bid to prove the South Sea Islands could have been settled from the east."
Seems to me . . . the tide was going that way anyway . . . so a few strokes on the oars can be demonstrated to add a little more momentum ?

I think it might be an April Fools joke, she managed to do it a month earlier than any other attempt.
